I understand the desire to play Ironman like in open play. I can see people being worried that Ironman will have less players. It is quite interesting to add professions (or play styles) to the discussion. I think it is likely that most people wanting to play pirates will play in open mode - on the face of it there are more player targets and most pirates seem to want player targets. I think it is possible that some of these pirates will get frustrated because in open mode the trader only really suffers credit loss from the pirate. So a lot of traders might choose to go down in flames rather than submit to piracy. Flip that around to Ironman and the trader/pirate relationship might be a lot more tense. If I was trading then I really don't want to lose an established character just for a few tons of gold. Equally the pirate needs to be careful. So a successful Ironman pirate is really living on the edge. They will probably be notorious among other Ironman players. What about the bounty hunter who eventually brings this pirate to justice? Of course if Ironman players get quick on the eject button then we should be OK. But the risk is always there and that adds to the tension.
The effect of adding Ironman like in open mode would be that there are less players in Ironman mode. If you want Ironman like in open then that doesn't concern you because your mode gets more players. But you can see why it would probably dilute Ironman. But that is getting away from my point. What happens when you add professions and play style to this discussion?
