choosing which system and which rock?

so I need to mine for tritium what type of system is best to find it in. because Im out in my carrier I need to find yhe best way to spot a potential system when sending out my scout. Any ideas?

2nd how do u know which is the best rock to bĺast if your looking for some mineral the hot spot doesnt always deliver. can be frustrating? thoughts ideas cmmdrs?

What are you out doing? If exploration/Exibio then you should be visiting systems. Make a note of which have ringed bodies and probe them at the time or later.

You do not always need a hot spot, thought the yields may be better. Hitting rocks with prospector limpets tells you if the rock is what you are looking for.

yes I understand all this .. I'm doing exio and scan the ring in systems that have these, but if your looking for tritium its usually found on rings of icy worlds it seems but then it turns up in other hot spots not specifically tritium hotspots but among some minerals when you mine the astroid. So my question is is there a particular class of star for e.g that is more likely to have planets with tritium in them.?

I thought it was Icy rings that were most likely not necessarily the rings of Icy worlds.

Yep, icy rings not icy worlds - although ice worlds with rings tend to have icy rings...

Scan / probe any icy rings you come across and it'll show whether they have tritium hotspots. They aren't particularly rare and I don't believe that star type makes them more or less likely.

im not aware of any particular star/planet producing any more tritium than others. pristine ice rings is all you are looking for

afaik hotspots only affect spawn in 100km around the hotspot poi center.
when tritium mining one strat that i found somewhat acceptable was a heavy miner (something like 2m2s lasers with a dozen collectors), put every other resource into block list and just fire away around the hotspot. dont even bother with prospectors, if you dont see any drop then just move along.

though id say that the best advice to mining tritium is try to avoid it as much as possible ^^ are you too far in the black?

Not yet Im oùt past Colonia getting creds up for upkeep on fc nearly 3 bill in kitty so thats fine. Got exo down to an art but just tryn to figure out tritium as intend to go way out .. sò need to get this minning thing sussed. Come back to the bubble looking like a bearded bum living on rats. cmdr C

i always thought that i would probably check if there is a place on my route where hauling tritium could still be more effective than mining, and use it as a last stop before the black. if it would take me 2 days to refuel my carrier by mining, but 1 day of hauling, then its not a hard decision...
from what ive heard about tritium availability in colonia you might just be beyond that point though ^^
other than what i said you might look here for some additional wisdom. even my beforementioned strat is stolen from that thread... :p

Most of your regular systems (KGBFOAM) can have planets or stars with Icy rings, Tritium hotspots will be found in about half of these.

A properly equipped out-black miner is really essential for what you are trying to do, I use a T9 for mainly laser mining, as long as you are more than 500ly from civilisation NPC's are not a problem so no need for any defensive weapons, and you an leave the game and restart without leaving the ring.

Use prospector limpets, always use an A rated controller, they increase the yield of the rock by 100%, Allow your limpets to collect any Raw mats as well as the Tritium, the limpets will stop collecting any Raw when you are full of that particular type of Raw. these can be traded later.

Last time I was in Colonia I got my carrier loaded with Tritium by the simple expedient of parking in a likely system, deciding how much I wanted and using some of the exobiology money to set a buy price.
The order was filled before I logged in the next day, it took longer back in the bubble a couple of months ago.

So far I have had to put no effort into Tritium mining.

Subsurface mining is faster with a couple of lasers in case the odd rock has a half decent amount to drill. SSD is the best way, doesn't rely on hotspots and works in any icy ring.

Yes Im going to try this Ive set a price so we will see how it goes.
