Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

CIG in this video:

In what year will Citizens be "out in the deep expanse of space a long time" ?

hmmmm

i wonder if you flew off like voyager in single direction how far could you get before you hit a barrier.

hypothetically you wont get booted by server crashes any more.

Jared: You're rightly looking through the lens of how Star Citizen is today.

Well, of course they are. You're selling it like a released product, you market it like a released product, so people have a right to criticize how the game works today. Not vague promises of what might happen to gameplay at some undetermined time in the future.

Just a random thought.

When CIG finally implodes, its going to leave a massive gap for some other developer to step up and promised to make the game CIG promised to make, to rake in a bazillion of dollars, and then ride off into the sunset.

BRB... just off to set up a new company. Anyone want to be on the board of directors?

That made me check in on a ludicrous title of old, and it turns out Ben finally updated his linkedin:

I don't know. Just like "it's not a war crime the first time" I think they'll make a law stopping people immitating CR/CIG.
At least I hope they do.

I played a bit today and had 10+ server FPS at all times. It was first time ever that it almost felt like a actual "game" (which it's not, mind you). Everything was smooth for most of the time (thanks DLSS), the NPC in a bunker FINALLY showed some intelligence, tried to swarm and circle me, guns worked, grenade worked, medpens worked...

It almost felt like a game. First time in 12 years. Wow.

OMG :D I got Summ1t in recommended streams just now (probably because I streamed SC earlier) and he's flying through whatever the megalopolis city is in SC, and someone asks in the chat "Can all these buildings be entered?" and someone else said "Not yet, but they will"

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

For those not in the Spanish know, the scrabble letters you see flying over the screen at 0:10 spell "humo", smoke 😋 . And his comment/complaint actually is: "What! How! When I exploded yesterday I was closer to it!"

Exploding if you are closer is A-ok! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I'm not even sure why that would help. It looks like what killed him was removing a large weapon from storage, causing a crate to spawn at a safe distance. Naturally causing everything to explode ;)

Hot Gossip:

Another round of fun gossip from our dev friend. (Had to cut out lots of juicy stuff that would get them or others in bother. This is what's left ;))

  • 'Too broken to test' is something that devs experience too. Even with tools to reach the correct location crashes and other bugs make reaching the exact spot / replicating the bug impossible at times.
  • Certain directors push for unreliable tech to be scaled rapidly (100+ outposts). Sometimes they will join at the review stage and throw in last minute additions which rely on poorly performing features like AI.
  • Additions can often break planned or existing features due to poor communication. For example PES persistence broke puzzles as key aspects wouldn't reset anymore but retained their state. Ship and player corpse persistence also impacted playability.
  • Citcon can draw teams away from their usual work. One location team had to dedicate a lot of their attention to a fake Pyro map previously. Currently the Audio team has been working on Citcon content since Q1. (The Audio team is small and frequently has a backlog of work for other teams).
  • Erin drinks 3-figure bottles of wine on the company dime. (Think near Concierge tier).
  • Todd Papy was pushed, he didn't jump.
  • Montreal is bleeding devs. They had plans for a UI team, but their UI Lead has left already.
  • The programmer working on upcoming cargo additions left recently.

Yeah performance has looked surprisingly ok in the last day or so, for a free fly / Invictus.

(Which made the Shroud stream all the funnier, as he still found it pure jank ;))

When the systems bog down though, they bog down hard... (As shown by Slob's stream, with everything breaking. One of the low-key funny / telling moments was how long it took his ship wreck to appear).

It does make me wonder why Invictus is having these smoother periods on the server side though. (Does the RL actually help, until the point that it queues up backlogs? Lower player numbers than usual? Because they're not running a larger scale Xeno event?)
