The Type-8

Definitely a Star Wars vibe from it;

When I first saw the cockpit position with regards the 'prongs' I thought that's going to block a lot of your LoS.
Medium pad is good, looking forward to seeing it in game.

I’m surprised nobody’s posted something yet, or maybe they did somewhere else and I didn’t see it.

What do you all think of her?

Looks nice, has a Star Wars-y smuggling adventure vibe for sure.

This looks like a utility vehicle. Something that would work on construction site, like a space crane or tug boat or something. It certainly doesn't look like it could carry a lot of internal cargo.

There was no problem with the T7, and still isn't. At one point it was one of many ships that fitted a role due to it's price. Then one day credits became a total non-issue and it didn't make sense to not fly an Anaconda for everything, since anyone could get one in an hour or two.
The major problem with the T7 is that it's Large pad. For this reason the Python has been the go-to trader simply due to the number of places you can't go in anything bigger.
This ship will thrive or wither on the cargo bay's comparison to the Python.

Sure, and when creds mattered it was a critical stepping stone for players in their journey to learn the ships and play the game. Now though, get whichever ship you want pretty much immediately. Or even pay for it. No point in the T7 anymore, but there was. It's definitely not the first time Frontier have invalidated their own game with their choices.

For me EDs design language was chunky and geometric- what I think the problem for me here is that the greebles generally don't say 'Lakon'. I can clearly see that in all lineages of ships- ZP has very distinct cues, so does Core, Gut too.

I can understand though this is a 'clean sheet' because everything is around the new SCO but.....by inner autist is making noises.
I don't immediately think Lakon when I see the Chiefs either though.

I love the look of it. Got a nice mixture of EvE, SW and Classic sci-fi. Hope that's the paintjob too.

Should block less of the view than the Kraits I reckon.

i wonder where this leaves the type 7 as it requires a large pad for only 16 tons more cargo than a python, really hope it dethrones the python as the medium hauler but then also the type 7 should get a size 7 cargo rack at least
Indeed, I wonder where this ship is going to land:

Python 294t max

🤔 Type 8?

T7 310t max

Unless it gets a way better jump range than a Python (as I don't expect this to have better hardpoints or shield multiplier) isn't going that much far.

I'd have more likely welcomed a 450-500t L-pad with better range, agility and higher shield multiplier than a T9 🤷‍♂️

If T8 gets like 350t it will be clumsier and have a shorter range than a T7 for sure (unless it breaks the scale and then we might sell all the T7s).

Looks smaller than T7, so it doesnt look like a large pad ship

I would assume it will bring some competition to Python

I love the design, bit it doesn't really scream "cargo ship" to me. It screams "mining ship".

It really does look like one of Ron Cobb's creation, land one loaded with Leathery Eggs in an Odyssey settlement (they always give me Hadley's Hope vibe) and we'll have real Alien vibes going🙂

For reference:

I like the pronged hull shape, makes it distinctive. I was expecting an iteration on the Type-6 or the Type-7. I'm also a fan of the gritty industrial styling, it's one of the things I like about Lakon ships. My only criticism appearance-wise is that it doesn't look like it makes the best use of its internal volume, which is something I would have expected from a cargo/mining ship. I would have kept the pronged shape, but made it bulkier.

"Variants", yeah right! I'm looking forward to how the next two ships will turn out.

It's M very likely indeed... but even having 350t would you swap that vs. a Python?

Imho to be a real competitor it should have a max 392t cargo, allowing the owner to run 2x196t missions (the largest quantity for A to B deliveries).

Well, the Python does 294t cargo (all internals cargo racks), Krait mk2 230t and Type 7 310t
Now, i'm started to doubt it will offer competition to Python in terms of cargo - maype to Krait mk2 with some added benefit like better SCO stability or the likes.

It does looks rather small and inefficient with internal space

The main reason is it does not 'feel' like an ED ship to me aesthetically- this is very much more Eve or Star Citizen. The only cues are the lakon cockpit and the landing legs- everything else (to me) just feels 'off'.
The Kraits have had similar arms since forever, so I don't really see what's so "off" about this design.

Maybe the engines at the sides?
