Update 18.04 | Python MK II

The Python Mk II is available in shipyards for all Odyssey owners on PC from 7 August
source
implies horizons players will be able to get only the arx prebuilt version
if you want py2 for credits, you have to own odyssey

I don't get it.
Regular PythonMk2 will be available for regular credits and no one will spend ARXs on it.
Stellar will be bought with ARXs to reduce the insurance for the ship when it is destroyed.
You won’t be able to buy it from a shipyard in the game for credits if you don’t own Odyssey. To get around that you will be able to buy it using the Arx store.

Some years ago they released an expansion to the game called Horizons people without Horizons could not buy ships that were released on Horizons such as the Dolphin, so the only new thing is being able to buy the ship with Arx rather than doing without or buying the expansion.

I don't remember ships being sold for ARXs before, but I guess we just have to wait until August and not guess.

Or wait for Odyssey to merge with the main game.
Considering the time that passed before Horizons was automatically integrated into the base game - you’d be waiting quite a long time…

… and I’m told Odyssey is often quite cheap to pick up nowadays. It’d probably come cheaper to buy it than four separate new ships (or variants, if you’re still so inclined), assuming you’d want to have them all but stay in 4.0 Horizons. Which buying Odyssey does not even prevent you from… so the main reason I’d see on holding off from purchasing it is less monetary and more based on principle.

I think that the main problem of the long unification of Horizons is the 32 bit version and console support.
Now these 2 factors are not present and the unification of Odyssey can happen much faster, especially as you write the price of Odyssey is not significant.

P.S. And actually if I were the FD marketing department, I'd release PP2 as a new paid DLC.

I think it is not confirmed that ALL the new ships will be available for Odyssey owners for free. Only for P2 it is, but who knows, maybe they alter the deal further?

In that case the ARX I've bought for the P2 shipkit and later down the line a Void Black paintjob for it will be the last ARX I've bought, ever.

And FDev will not give a dime, because you already acknowledged their course with your previous purchases. Come on, open up that wallet and let the money fly. More, more, more! :D

I would consider it a reasonable assumption to make that the other ships are going to follow the same model but I guess they could pull a Vader on people.

(Sorry for the lack of GIF, lazy)

I've been the first to voice my displeasures over certain changes to the ARX store (removing paintjobs, and the intent to have more limited sales for the removed items, maybe, if they feel like it), but we're being a little hasty on assuming the Python Mk.II will be the only new ship that's released for credits and that all subsequent ones will be only for ARX.

Conventional wisdom would state that the Python Mk.II release is the template which will be followed until we're told otherwise. The fact is we don't know either way regarding the Type-8 and an open Odyssey shipyard for credits release.

Or they could for once do the opposite and release all future ships for standard credits immediately alongside a prebuilt role specific version for ARX.

But how should they then generate income from the core player base with the new ship FOMO? The prebuilt stuff would have to be really good in terms of modules to make it attractive for old players, but then people would dance the P2W mambo again. No, I guess it is more probable that they go the other direction and make the P2 the only one free for Odyssey. As a kind of... free teaser. You know, just so you get the taste. The addiction comes later.

Forever, in fact! We know already that Odyssey can not possibly merge due to the age rating difference.

Something for Commanders in general to consider—paying for Horizons gave access to Krait, Mamba, engineers and Guardian modules, and could not be done with free Arx potentially. That Commanders with only Horizons can use the Live galaxy and retain progression is a very welcome courtesy, and that some new features such as Titans are accessible is a massive courtesy!

I think that four new starships ought to elevate Odyssey up to being an expansion worth getting, very much imagining its success difference were that the case at what had to pass for its launch.

Well, I would go Cold Turkey, and I bet I'd not be the only one.
