Wakes up, checks watch, remembers race end time has been extended until 12:00 UTC Monday.
Leaps into cockpit of the deathtrap determined to be rid of this heap of crap for the remainder of the triple-eight championship.
Sticks post-it note on the window that simply reads ..

ENGAGE SILENT RUNNING

An hour and several explosions and trips to the Sepulchre later ..

.. run submitted bitches.

Ok, I'm done. I've spent 3 days? 4? No idea. Trying to break 14 mins in Open and 19 in Reg. Mostly Imp Eagle, then today I switched to Eagle Mk2, never mind if it was forbidden, I didn't think I'd be bothering the top 5. Alignments seemed to be terrible for the Cobra all weekend. There was a very large helping of real life got in the way as well, but I've still managed well over 40 rebuys and trips to jail. We should probably have had a 2ndary race from The Sepulchre back to the Penny Benjamin!

Well done to everyone that's taken part, huge congratulation to the usual suspects at the top of the boards, and @Caelum Incola, you absolute complete and utter triple-stamped gold-plated bar steward!! Sir. It's been a magnificent race, but right now I hate you! :ROFLMAO:

Posted on the discord too:

I need a little favour. For the post I need as many of you guys as possible sitting on the foredeck seats in the viewing area of the Penny Benjamin. Preferably all wearing shades. Anyone who is free at around 11.00pm BST (22.00 game time) for a quick screenshot down there would be awesome! 🤩

I normally always fly FA off. But not in the paper thin ludicrous-speed deathtrap I built for this race, hell no. I'm an experienced AX pilot and yet somehow managed to lose more ships doing this than fighting Goids. Thank you Buckyball Racing Club for the explosively good times and I look forward to the next race, with some changes to my approach and a go at the regulation class, too.

I entered this nonsense, got started late but built a ship that goes too fast and blew up a bunch making these runs. So here I am at the very last moment... not breaking any records but entering anyway because one way or another, I did it :)
You know what, I think I'm going to add ..

"built a ship that goes too fast and blew up a bunch making these runs"
Cmdr Scorpio Dukat

.. to the #quotes section of the Buckyball Discord Server, it's too perfect a summation of what we do. :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to the mad house commander and congratulations on getting a run in (although whether or not it makes it past the drill sergeant here remains to be seen, he's a bit of a ball buster I'm afraid!) ;)

Yeah, but only because most of you bunch of certifiable hooligans can’t seem to follow simple instructions. 🤨
Also welcome to the madness Scorpio Dukat.

Final tables will be posted in around six hours all being well.
Dismissed.

So as the race is now closed I'm not sure whether we all went the same way or not. People talking about trying to plot their final jump from the Megaship or the Medical centre had me confused for a while.
I figured, as I nearly always do, that the slowest part of the race would be trying to SC away from the planet. Even though it was only a moon, it was still over 0.1g and so going to take a while. So I just took what I deemed to be the sensible approach and go FC Dock > Megaship > Medical Centre > Matarov > home.

By going for the Megaship first it meant I could use the better Gravity Braking potential of the Gas Giant, and then the medical centre was such a short hop you didn't need to worry about escaping the full Gravity Well of the Gas Giant. As long as the Medical centre was within 0.5Ls or so, so you didn't have to go around the Gas Giant. The Megaship was where I decided to do the overheating too, as I already had to engage silent running. Turned that on just after making it through the rings, and then after stopping for the crate just keep boosting and spinning around to generate as much heat from the thrusters as I could.
Then it was only 11Ls to Matarov, so a bit easier to reach without Gravity issues as you start from the ring not next to the Gas Giant and you build up short range speed quite quickly. I had to plot an escape jump from Matarov, but it was a nice easy one that was fortunately always unobscured.

Finding a time when the medical centre was close enough to the Megaship was the tricky bit, but fortunately there was a 5 hour slot on Sunday morning when it was in optimum position.
