Lets talk about the new community goal in Rhea....

Trade CG's can be greatly swayed by commanders who fill their FC, then sign up and dump the cargo at the last minute.
Non-bulk cargo CGs - salvage, sampling, rares - sure.

Bulk trade CGs might get a tiny spike towards the end from FC deliveries but the overall progress is generally a lot smoother than that. When a "top 10%" player in a trade CG is delivering 1-3 full FC loads (more, if they have services installed) they're going to have to make multiple unloads if they're using a FC for it, which spreads those spikes out a lot.

If you look at Inara's graph for the previous trade CG, there is a bit of a spike in per-hour deliveries on the Wednesday, but averaged out over the full 24 hours there was more cargo delivered on the Sunday (and not much less on the Monday).

Ok, I am going to try to keep this thread light.

The current community goal is very flawed IMO. Take the last community goal where we had to fend off pirates. As a player you had two options, combat or trade. The overwhelming majority of players chose combat and we made our goal and everyone got their just rewards. ~2500 players signed up for combat. On the trade side of that goal, it was a failure. IIRC the trade side didn't even make it to the first tier. Ok....

Now we have the new community goal. This time there is only one option, trade. As of writing this it is nearly 2100 hrs GMT on day one and less than 500 players have signed on and we are not even 25% of tier 1. This same time last goal we were well past tier 1, poss even in tier 2 or 3. On top of this you have two rewards beyond what is presumably more credits (we don't know because the rewards are hidden until we get to tier 1 which won't happen today or poss even tomorrow.) The rewards we do know of are an orange paint job for a scarab and a tier 6 corrosive resistant cargo rack.

The first reward sucks IMO, the only people in a space sim who would choose orange MIGHT be the Irish and the Dutch. The second reward is much better and would greatly benefit the AX community but here is the kicker. The AX community is predominantly COMBAT pilots, not trade. And they are currently focused on spamming surface AXCZ''s now that spires are less popular.

So my big concern is this... What is Fdev thinking??? They had the data from the last CG and yet they focused on the overwhelmingly least popular activity of the two and now progress is terrible. I might be wrong but I don't see a lot of pilots gearing up for a weekend of hauling cargo. So either Fdev reduces the cargo thresholds for the tiers or adds another option to this CG. I don't see either happening as they are very slow to respond and I don't see hordes of pilots showing up to haul cargo. Prove me wrong
I don't think AX ships want to carry 64 tons of corrosive stuff.

Hmmm...
Maybe my ORANGE DBX was inspired by, and named after, this?

And I'm neither Irish nor Dutch...

ETA: But hey, if a player doesn't want a CG reward, they don't have to do it, they have always been optional, haven't they?

This CG isn't structured well. If they had made the rack at tier 5 and everyone who dropped off cargo got the rack there wouldn't be hardly any backlash. People could contribute as they're able not worry about missing out.

Figure that half the people who care enough about the CG to do it, won't even get the worthwhile reward for doing it. Maybe I'm weird, but that doesn't sound fun at all for a community event.

I agree entirely, it doesn't!
The numbers are a bit odd (a bit?!!) and the 50% at T5 even odder.
Not that I should complain about how they sometimes do things, I got in the top 10 on a Colonia Bridge CG...

I dont mind the community event, though it feels more like a community race for rich to get richer and new players standing no chance. All new people get is a paint, which kind of just defeats the spirit of "community".

I cannot fathom why it is a race to begin with. The last community event before this was my first one ingame and i feelt the same way.. Why is it a race when its said to be a community event? It feels so backwards and dumb to reward people who alreayd got everything with the good stuff and the new players get basically nothing.

I get the idea that "people who do the heavy lifting should be rewarded" but this doesnt feel like that at all

I'm a member of one AX community and I can't think of a time I've wanted cargo in a size 6 slot, so I'm sceptical of that "all".
If Fedv is showcasing this module and there is an upcoming change to Thargoid content in the works there is a good chance this increased anti corrosion cargo capacity might be very beneficial so the idea is better have and not need it as opposed to the other way around, ya?

Elite players are not happy when there's no CG.

Elite players are not happy when there's a CG.

Elite players shouldn't complain if FDEV cancels all the accounts.
You are oversimplifying and taking great leaps with your assumption. What I would prefer, and many others that I have spoken to, is varied CG content when it comes out. At least the previous CG had two options, trade AND combat. The combat side met the highest threshold while the trade side fell short, so.... ya

It's not the first time that a CG comes with single side... we had Xeno CGs (and many players are not caring about Xeno at all, so they all felt stranded), we had CGs in remote systems, or for explo data etc etc there's no way to make everyone happy, but not everyone is required to attend CG to enjoy the game.

You are looking at it from the perspective of a game player and equating community with players. It is supposed to be as internal to ED as Galnet or the Thargoid war.
The Goal is in the title/description of the CG as is the Community.

The competitive thing is there because they know that most commanders are competitive so adding that boosts the chances of the goal being met.

Just because something is a longstanding issue, doesn't mean it's impossible to improve.

CGs could absolutely be expanded to reward multiple types of contributions for wider appeal. Or just using what we currently have, just pair up CG types like they usually do. And/or, run CGs more frequently so that if one CG isn't your thing, you can probably just come back in a week rather than months. Can't include every activity, but since when was that the goal?
