General / Off-Topic Quitting Smoking Diary

Good, though tonight was my first night out without the wife and alcohol. Still not smoking... I have good days and bad days, but even with the bad days I've resisted.

And thank you for asking I stopped updating because I figured...

Day 1) Nothing to report.

Day 2) No cigarettes smoked.

Day 3) Considered smoking cigarette, but didn't....

After day 5 or 6 as long as I resist it's sorta boring reading (though good for me!)

well done so far, but what the none smoker dont understand is that once a smoker always a smoker,

what i mean by this is that though you dont smoke cigs anymore the temptation will always be there, its like asking someone who has lost their virginity to become a virgin again, even some of the posts in this thread from none smokers admit that temtation pops up now and then, Ive given up smoking in the past several times and fallen of the wagon several times. the longest ive gone not smoking was 3 years. sometimes i wonder how hard it is for an recovering alchoholic never to have a drink again.

but i do remember after 3 weeks of not smoking i would think to myself" that was easy". all it takes now is will power. dont give in, 1 smoke is normally enough to fall off that wagon.

Two weeks!

That's the first most difficult part over - well done!

Now the second most difficult part is to come - never having another one :D

Very true (what Mobius said), I previously gave up for 1.5 sol years and went back stronger than ever. This time its 2.3 years since I last had a ciggy, and I still crave sometimes, in the evenings.

Exercise is a big help (nothing crazy, maybe just some pushups), just something to get the lungs/heart going a bit

No probs. Actually I thought you may have lapsed and was embarrassed to post. Well done for keeping going. :)

I agree with the others, the hard part will be keeping going now you are over the initial withdrawal symptoms. A single cigarette was all it took for me to start up again a few years back.

Its quite simple.....You have to really want to give it up to succeed without to much suffering....Otherwise its hell.....

Keep going Jeff!

To other people thinking of stopping, I would recommend you plan to stop at the next time you are at a point in your body cycle when you are physically and mentally on a high. My reasoning is that you are in the best condition to deal with those critical first 3 days.

Of course if you can just stop anytime, that's good too

PS. I was tricked into stopping. My Dr. told me I had had a heart attack. 3 months later I find out that that is m*****cks and that he's just a crap MD. But by that time, not even I was daft enough to start again out of spite.
PPS. And no, it was not a clever ploy by the Dr. He was miffed to the max when he found out I had not had a heart attack. I saw him later, having a *** (ciggy, can't say f-a-g) with a nurse outside.

I think I stand a decent chance because unlike a lot of people who quit I am fully aware that there's no such thing as 'just one'.

But I have cravings, urges, my body and temper are still adjusting. Yeah I figured some people would have figured I'd gone back to smoking... :)

The tempers easy to deal with.....Deap breath....Slowly count to ten

Then whack the B*****ds !! :D

Humour helps ..

As for F-a-g...Thats a brit only word for cigerette i think....It has a completly different meaning in america :)

I'm a teacher.... oh but how I'd love to follow that advice sometimes...

OMG !!!
And your giving up smoking.....for me that would be a good time to increase my dosage....

You have my full admiration.....Your made of stronger stuff than me..

Although you may still have the craving...going without over a week is a great achievment and it will get easier...Perhaps just treating yourself at the end of month using the money you have saved on maybe a boxed edition of Elite or just something you want.

It may help you look forward to what you can spend your saved money on next month making it easier each time :)

Why taking one cigarette? It stinks, it's dirty, it gives to lung cancer and tongue and throat, it makes rotten teeth, it makes the yellow fingers and the eyes also, it makes fetid breath, and also clothes and home. it's very expensive, it breaks morale, it takes away the memory. You become a slave and as a reward, the cigarette makes your life rotten and gives you death.

;)

I found that eventually the craving faded completely - even when I was out having a drink and many around me were smoking (obviously going back aways now pre-ban).

To be fair I was a casual/social smoker most of the time. Though there were periods when I took up full time as it were - pack a day stuff (2 packs at weekends).

But I was never a full-on started at 14 and carried on daily till I finally gave up.

For years though I couldn't resist in a social setting when I had a few drinks..

Now think about how much money you saved in a year by Not smoking. Also it due to stress someone goes back to smoking. Like a abusive spouse or a bad job and so on.

The people who Quit smoking. A idea is make a saving account. Each week take out how much it would of cost of smoking into it. Then take a trip at the end of the year.

My first post. Was not to scare anyone. But what could happen if you do smoke. Besides if I wanted to scare you. I would of posted his picture of his Neck.
