Question regarding pirates spawned by missions

So i primarily do trading, currently working up the empire ladder for a cutter. Transport missions will spawn pirates once you get close to where things need to go. I can throttle down during the intersiction and let them hit me to spawn sector security. This is important because i cant really fight in the ship im using. I have room for one small hardpoint. I have a few questions. Do i need to do damage to the shields to get the bounty reward? What about hull? Do i need to do damage at all? If i need to do damage, right now my idea is a beam laser, as of right now non engineered. Is that enough to get the reward? Or do i need to put heat vent on it to do damage to the ship? Would that even work? Or am i better off getting a physical weapon and waiting till security drops the pirates shelds?

Thanks for the help

I thought the time limit was a hit in the last ten seconds.

To be honest I slow down to 50% (middle of the blue) or even down to around 5-10% which mostly lets me win the interdiction and stay in cruise, after all if I am hauling cargo I am not that interested in shooting or being shot at by pirates.

Me too... NPC pirates are mostly a waste of time (unless I need bounties for some reason).

The bounties aren't worth the hassle IMO. It's better to win the interdiction and continue on.

If you must fight, just hit them with a little damage every couple of seconds. They should concentrate on the ship that's doing the most damage, which won't be you. If you hit their hull soon before they explode, you get credit. A little tap of the lasers every couple of seconds should accomplish that.

Yup, another for win the interdiction. As long as it’s NPC then get the throttle in the blue section of its power range and chase the interdiction target. You should win a minimum of high 90% of the time even in the slowest of ships aka Type 9. The game sort of sets the bar based on what your flying and what your rank is.

If it’s a person, then so long as your flying a fast ship that’s got strong shields and a tough chassis then drop the throttle to zero - this means when you do drop out of hyper space your Frameshift drive will reboot quickly. Then boost and run as fast as you can but keep moving as most people will not be using gimbal weapons and so need to track you to hit you. Even with all this on your side you may find you lose more of these incursions than win.

If I need alot of engineering mats, or just feel like taking out the NPC pirates, I submit, pop the NPC ship and pickup the mats. Or just win the interdiction, if you cannot be bothered. Oh and if you do submit, cause you want the mats and or bounty, tag the pirates every 10 seconds or so, and do not shoot the space po po (police), cause that is BAD. You'll find out if you do, and then you would need to track down an interstellar factor and pay off your fines or bounties for shooting the space po po, even by accident, they get cranky.

I thought the throttle position didn't matter during interdiction and I haven't seen a difference, but I'm certainly not the most skilled pilot out there. Has anyone scienced this?

Yes if put it at zero you submit to the interdiction, if you put it in the blue it makes steering the ship easier, which makes following the interdiction escape target easier. That’s not to say you can’t win leaving the throttle at full speed though.

My forum search has failed me but some years back(5-6) there was quite a bit done about how you could win 90% or more interdictions in a Type 9 if you flew it slowly enough. My previous laptop had more keys and I had 10% throttle bound as well as a step down by a percentage key this worked quite well as long as I wasn't too slow when the interdiction started as the game saw such a big throttle reduction as zeroing and submitted me.

Now I wing it a bit more with the analogue throttle which worked during the last CG.

Of course the best way to beat interdictions is to fly a really good ship for the job, the Orca and Type 7 are brilliant at it.

Also if the pirate hails you just after you arrive in the system try and get him to fly too close to the star, it will pull him out of cruise and you are clear.

I just see it as free money since security is doing most of the work and im using a laser, a free to use weapon

Dont remember off the top of my head. Its also my miner, so i have three hardpoints for mining. And even a miner needs some self defense. Saving for that cutter, thats why im not buying building and engineering another ship
Intrigued as to what ship they are using to work this rank up for the Cutter? "room for one small hard point" sounds like a Hauler

Don't know about the specialized miner's laser, but the spear is definitely positioned as and combat laser.
(although it can't be grouped with regular weapons for some reason).

For myself if I'm worried about NPC interdiction stay close to the star, 50-60% heat and turn your stern to it at 30km/s. The star will take out a pirate and you don't have to worry about it.
In my T9 if I get interdicted I have FA off which allows much better turns and reverski if necessary.
If you get interdicted it's normally a smaller ship for this I have gimballed beams in the shoulder mounts and seeker missiles around the cockpit. This is normally enough to deal with the ships that interdict randomly.
Obviously this isn't a mission runner for which you'd want Delacey, or a T10.

Just evade the interdictions. Npc interdictions are laughably easy to evade. In my entire history of playing the game I have been successfully interdicted by an npc only a couple of times, and those were merely because I wasn't paying attention and didn't start the "evade the interdiction" minigame soon enough.

Just throttle to maximum and aim for the escape vector. It's very easy even if you are flying a whale like the Type 9.

(For other players, ie. gankers, it's completely different. Those can't be evaded so it's useless to even try. If you are playing in solo, you will only be successfully interdicted if you want to.)

But it is free money. You get credits for the bounty kill, and credits as an extra reward for the mission

Rarely worth it. And you need to be making your ship into a combat ship rather than a transport ship.

Good for role-playing and getting a bit of variation to the game, though, so if it's your thing, by all means.
