More positive ways to aquire materials for upgrading.

I typically dont do engineering or upgrades, but recently I am wanting to upgrade my guns and suit for settlement stuff. The youtubes I find have many unlawful ways to aquire the items needed for upgrades. Aren't we supposed to be pilots in some positive organization? Why are all the options against the law? That makes absolutely no sense. If we are all in a big pirate or bad organization, then that'd make sense. But we're not!

So, how about you let us know (if there are any) the ways we can obtain these things in a lawful way. Sure, have it so going the unlawful route is faster, but I want to see and know the ways I can go an aquire this stuff without being shot at.

If there are ways to do this already, can someone just say the steps for that?

Thanks!

Nope. The Pilots Federation is at best a union of independent pilots forming part of a secretive, politically neutral group with a blood thirsty reputation.

The PF was born out of a need for mutual protection from piracy, but that evolved into a reputation as some of the best independent mercenaries in existence. And mercenaries don't follow good or bad, they follow coin.

The PF itself also has ties to things like The Dark Wheel, and has faced accusations of what's essentially abuse of position and information abuse/ hoarding for their own gain.

They're no good organization, but not bad either. Just neutral.

Salvage abandoned settlements either in restore missions or around Thargoids occupied (or recently liberated) systems.

Hence the title Eite: Dangerous, that dangerous part doesn't refer to the galaxy as many people seem to think, but to us the pilots of the pilots federation, we are the dangerous ones, and also why many disparate groups often call on "independent" pilots for assistance in sometimes hostile interactions with others.

There was literally just a massive update to this, you can get everything you need from mission rewards now.

Also there are combat missions to assassinate members of criminal factions which aren't illegal and are an excellent source of loot if you fill your pockets while you're there.

The problem is you watched youtube instead of playing the game and exploring what was possible. I have upgraded 10 suits and 14 weapons and never did anything that got me a bounty or fine. I make that distinction because the game considers some of the stuff you take from a POI in the middle of nowhere to be stealing whereas I consider it legal salvage. 😛 Regardless, the vast majority of the stuff I collected came from completely legal reactivation missions.

Mercenaries can still have principles, though. Some of us refuse to work for the Feds, some avoid Imps at all cost, some abhor slavery, some refuse to do illegal assassinations/settlement massacres/passenger liner murder but are perfectly fine with doing legal (read: state sanctioned) takedowns and settlement raids which count as murder in your codex either way.

For the OP, mission rewards were boosted significantly. Just do legal missions and you can get what you need. As of today, most Youtube guides are outdated, anyway. For example, you don't need power regulators anymore and Opinion Polls/Settlement Defence Plans can be had as mission awards.

Everyone at any of these settlements is a criminal or is conspiring with criminals. Yes there are some silly legal technicalities, but gunning down everything that moves in the setttlement and taking anything that isn't nailed down (they don't need it any more and have you seen where they store half that stuff- it's all just lying around. You're just tidying the place up) is the sensible and moral thing to do.

I was very much under the impression it was a "good guys" sort of group, so this clears up a bit of skepticism on the possibilities. Thanks!

Shortly after I posted this, I did a ground CZ and after winning the battle, got out my welder and opened some stuff and the troops left from the battle didn't bother me, so there's another safe way to go about it...but thanks!

Yeah it's not exactly "Elite:Hugs" I suppose. I realize my suggestion is more towards lack of examples of doing it in a lawful way...but there are ways.

Thanks, I'll check more into those later.

Yeah, most are from 2021 or so.

Is that so? I'm now looking at clearing these places out, now, in a more positive way...thanks!

Any guide that is older than or not updated since the latest update to the game should be considered suspect especially if it touches something that was in the update.
