Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The year is 2024 ED...

Early Days

The usual gabble of 'transit and missions still broken', 'feature vN going well' in the PU report.

This SQ42 bit kinda invites translation too though...

On the mo-cap side, the team supported gameplay and story needs with capture shoots and solved data. They also supported the Mo-Cap team so they can be even more efficient and knowledgeable on future shoots.

Translation: The Mocap team keep giving us unworkable data ;)

Poll was made on the SC subreddit whether people through the green skybox should stay or go. Results overwhelmingly against the green skybox.

Discussion on Spectrum about the results, well known white knights saying you can't trust the poll and that CIG shouldn't listen to backers just because they don't like something.

I'm sure these people would be the first to point to the poll that was done to keep increasing the scope that was done in 2014.

I see the crowds divided over the level of immersion and detail that went into making screens look worse than before.

It's a minor graphical change that should have come in the polishing phase after the game is feature complete.
But it's also an effect of real physics and allows breaking out into the song and dance.
People who complain deliberately make it appear worse by screenshotting at a pitch and on an angle.
Just press F and walk closer with W and the character lines up with the display nicely. It's barely noticeable and nice attention to detail.

Someone's unearthed a great counter to the 'had to build the company' meme:

Chris Roberts Feb 2014 said:
You may find it interesting to know that as of this moment there are 212 people working on Star Citizen between the internal and external studios and contractors! More people are working on this project than most AAA console titles, and it’s definitely the largest team to work on a Space Sim. These are jobs you have created! It’s an amazing accomplishment and it’s all down to your passion for space sims, PCs and doing something different!

Not only that but these are 212 developers that want what you want – to make the best game possible – they don’t have to worry about a publisher pushing them to release early to plug a hole in a quarterly revenue plan or to incorporate a feature just because it’s the flavor of the month.

2014 was the initial year SC was meant to be released. 2014 was when Chris, Sandi, and Erin all said SC and SQ42 were both nearing completion and would be released in 2015. (SQ42 would be released end of year with SC not far behind)

2014 was when they did the second poll asking people if they wanted to keep expanding the stretch goals (with no added delay to release according to Chris).
