Hi guys new player here. i have one question about exbiology scans and first footfall.

lets say i got the first footfall on a planet and also scanned the biology and then i go on to explore outside the bubble for around 2 weeks. But another player also come around to that planet and scanned the plants and stuff and he turned them in straight away before i could cuz i was still outside the bubble on a voyage. does he get the first footfall scan bonus? Or do i still get the first footfall cred 5x anytime i turn in scans to vista after i scanned them.

First footfall doesn't pay anything directly.

You get 5x for being the first to return the scans of a particular type of plant, whether or not you have first footfall as well.

In practice, of course, there are so many planets out there that the chance of someone else coming along after you to the exact same planet at all are generally pretty low: the main risk is that you make a mistake while out exploring and lose the data entirely.

Of course a Cmdr seeing the first footfall already taken will be even more unlikely to want to scan the plants there. Applies to me anyway.

so the cred bonus is more like the first to give them to vista rather than the guy getting first footfall and scanning them first. got it guys. thank you

Yeah that's right, first report, first footfall is just a personal thing, how many etc. As said, keep in mind first footfalls on planets with valuable biology will usually mean it has all been scanned, but with some exceptions. If I have a planet with bacteria worth 1m and Stratum worth 19m I will often scan the Stratum and leave the bacteria, but unfortunately there really is no way to tell until you turn it in whether something has already been reported.

There is, but it is not very obvious, After you have scanned a sample go to the system map and check the organic info tab for the planet, if a specimen has been scanned and reported previously it will have a "first logged by" tag.

The "first logged by" tag does not appear until after it has been handed in to Vista.

Screenshot after scanning a planet with 8 biological, 4 had been scanned previously and 4 had been missed, this is before I cashed in at Vista.

After handing in my samples I got first logged tags and the bonus:)

I do not normally bother if there is a first footfall tag but this shows what can be missed:)

Edit: just as a teaser I left planets D, E and F containing a total of 8 biologicals untouched.

I really wouldn't be worried, considering how long the game has been going and your the first there gives you an indication of the chances someone else will find it.
Ive found unmapped systems less than 700LYs from SOL.
