Greetings all and Hard to adapt!

I have been trying whole day to just land out and land in without any success.
Modules are being overheated and the ship is just falling apart.
Out of fuel a few times.
Self-destruct is a very good idea that is implemented.
Players killed me 6 times at starting area and counting. Trying to auto launch. After auto finishes, they just blow you up!
It is not a complex game, it is complex to find the right controls. And is very unrewarding when you actually find them. The concept is good but the controls suck.
Ground combat is only for max level 5 guns and equipment. NPC's are all ninja's and one shot you.

Will try this game from time to time, but not as a main game. It is torturing me to understand controls that drive my ship from star to star.
Scoop should be in starting ships implemented. At least to refill if someone manages to find KGBFMAO stars witch i find it very hard to find near starting area.

The concept of loadout killed me 3 times not able to bring my new guns.
Everything is a concept in this game.

Yet again, will not abandon the game but is frustrating for newcomers. Maybe when i be 60 years old i will stream on youtube. :)

If you are learning, don't play the game in multiplayer. Get yourself familiar with the mechanics of the game in solo/private group; Ive been playing the game for years and I have not once stepped foot into multiplayer as its a gank-fest.

In regard to your ship over-heating, there are many variables that would cause this. Being too close to a star when activating your FSD is the most common one. Check out this:

Don't give up though, the game is a grind and the learning curve is steep; But the reward is great when you start to see the fruits of your effort!

Probably because they've done it and seen it all, or they like to cause grief, or they need to compensate for their small ears, or they role play the baddies, or... and so on :)

Stuff like that happens in literally every single game that allows PVP.
You can switch to Solo mode any time - you still affect the same galaxy as everyone else, but you effectively won't see any other players.

It's enough that you jump away from the starter systems to somewhere else. There are literally tens of thousands of populated systems.
As for this:
It is not a complex game

My friend, you are in for such a surprise :D I would strongly recommend doing all of the available training - accessible from either the main menu or the right hand panel in your ship:

Welcome to the community! Feel free to ask any questions - we're very helpful here. Someone even said recently that Elite community is "aggressively helpful" :D Everyone will try to convince you that their way of doing things is the right way.

The truth is - there is no right or wrong way to play Elite - it's an absolute sandbox and it's only up to you how you choose to play this game :) You can take it slowly, you can grind to the max, you can do a bit of both etc.

One piece of advise I can give you - do not listen to anyone that tells you that you're playing this game wrong and that you should do things differently. Listen to the advice, but make it your game, not someone else's :)

I would also strongly recommend to AVOID any YouTube videos that promise you 100000000000000000 Credits per hour, as they WILL make you go and grind - and won't tell you there are other ways to accomplish whatever the goal is.

Without seeing video it's hard to comment. But I suspect many mistakes are being made.

I'll repeat some of the advice already given. If you can't fly your ship, do the basic ship tutorials until you can. Work out your controls at the same time.

Redo the foot tutorial.

Get out of Open play until you have a better handle on the game. Some players like to roleplay :poop:🪣

Hi. Welcome to Elite: Dangerous!

I appreciate your frustration. The game is ten years old and this means that there is a lot to understand - ten years of additions and new mechanics. I recently spent a couple of weeks helping a good friend of mine to learn the game. He bought it in 2020 and left his character hanging in space outside the starter station after two hours because he found the same problems as you - the game is daunting.

Here are a few tips:
  1. If playing with mouse and keyboard, don't use the default controls.
    • Change mouse X axis to yaw. This makes the ship fly more in the way you expect from playing FPS games.
    • Map Q and E to roll left and roll right.
      • These two changes made flying "make sense" to him - he says they were easily the best adfvice I gave him.
  2. Play in solo or private group at the start. you have already seen that other players will kill you because they can. It's called seal-clubbing. It's not cool and it's not fair. I can't understand their motivation. Don't let them shoot you until you're ready to shoot back.
  3. Don't try to charge your FSD while you're close to a star. As you found out, your modules overheat. Pull up 90° when you jump into a system and accelerate away from the star for a few seconds. This will allow you charge your FSD whitout smoke and sparks.
  4. Only one kind of ground combat NPC can kill you in one shot - they're called a Striker, and they have a shotgun. All other NPCs need at least two hits to kill you provided your shields are up. Are your shields up?
  5. There are three kinds of conflict zone (CZ) on the ground - low, medium and high intensity. High intensityCZs have the strongest NPCs. Consider trying low or medium intensity CZs first.

OP may not even know there is a solo option. I have to press my spacebar on the main menu in order to be able to click the solo option on the next screen. If I click at the main menu, it will usually click through to the next screen (or my mouse is double-clicking). That results in automatically launching into open.

:rolleyes:agreed ya the button press time there seems ultra sensitive launching you straight into open if care not taken to quickpress and let go so you don't miss that options screen...........

Thanks for all the help guys!
Stopped playing the game because it was too frustrating. I still do not like the game mechanic. It is not at all fun for me! I do not enjoy traveling through space and i am scared to make a mistake. Taxi service is a nice addition! Self-destruct also!

Who needs fuel to travel when you have such advanced engines who can self-charge from the sun, but yeah the game mechanic is just hiding that from the players? All you need is go closer and it will self-charge with the right module? The main point i want to address is that small things is preventing me to enjoy the game. All those key bindings are too much! It would have been very simple for multi-use of a single button depending on what it is used for.

So yeah... i am back and will try to play longer this time!
I saw some systems have leftist governments, so my main question is who leftists are in Powerplay? Or a communists?

so your back.........
to outta space
ya cant figure out those bindings
oh that look apon your face.........
ya should have got yourself a stick
you should have setup voice control
so can become accustomed to do that space patrol.............
so go on go
get out the slot
to stop flying like a noobie you need to pratice quite a lot:ROFLMAO:
(to much rum and diana ross on the radio lol)

That's unfortunately the side-effect of a multiplayer game where PvP is a core feature and destroying other players has effectively no consequences (by design).

As others have suggested, log into "solo" mode so that you won't encounter other players. NPCs will generally not attack you (at least not when leaving a station or docking at one.)
