Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

CIG has became master in manipulating people into buying over the 13 years that they've been going at it...
Oh don't really have to put big effort that would make them"masters"... Let's take SalteTwerk17: a new ISC starts he's like "don't trust these people, folks, it's a decade they serve us the same snake oil!" and end "I love what I heard, faith restored ", or he starts his weekly Answer The Call with is friend Croncy, infuriated by the last patch, and an hour later of grumbles slipping to happy theorycrafts they they end reinvigorated.

Backers are the best at auto persuasion.

1000 player / 6 shards test did look better - though janky as hell compared to any other game. Here's Berks watching another player succumb to the 'we disagree on where the planet is' desync

.... and invisible players - here Berks has asked a player to drop a medpen so he can heal another player that he can actually see

Yeah the guys in the above vids had to play a game of 'block the invisible players from entering your lift' at Microtech. (Otherwise the panels displayed their personal hangars instead etc).

Took them a while ;)

In terms of precise vocabulary that particular test is 1 shard divided into 6 fixed regional servers with a total combined capacity of 1000 players, correct?

This means you could potentially have anything from zero, and up to 1000 players in any of those 6 servers if all players decided to congregate and unless CIG forces individual server caps.

That's how I understand it. Starting to think the reason they went with traffic control on the Pyro wormhole was so they can stop that happening.

Morph is trying to collect people at the moment. Frame rate is diving as they reach 100 and then - gatecrashers!

Yeah, marketing wise 1000 sounds most excellent. But it is when you start to understand the implications that you realize in how many different and easy ways the whole thing can break.

I imagine good dev design on the other hand ensures that a system is proposed in a way that minimizes or even eliminates those risks. Which more often than not probably leads to very specific caps and compromises to ensure an actual smooth gameplay experience in all possible situations.

I suspect CIG doesn’t care at all that the thing can still too easily break as long as they can get a “1000 players” headline.

They should make instances instead :p

Spectrum wandering into Hotel California territory. ED gets a few mentions along the way

Personally I'd love for CIG to implement PG/solo modes in SC, if only to watch the resulting meltdown on the forums.

Funny how the main narrative among the SC faithful about Soulsinger is its going to be a new tech for SC. Every time it comes up, someone asserts its new tech for SC.

I guess that's because they understand the negativity it will produce if it is a new game and they are trying their best to deflect or ignore this possibility.

One day though, CIG will have to actually reveal what it is. I think that moment is going to be glorious.
