DLC18 discussion and predictions

hope your specific or we might end up with the western long beaked echidna instead of the short beaked
There's no western longbeaks anywhere near the Huon Peninsula, wrong side of New Guinea. So we might end up with eastern longbeak instead, an unrealistic choice for everything besides recreating Taronga Zoo 😌

Short-beaked echidnas actually inhabit some of the lowland forests just to the south and west of the Huon Peninsula, so they get close!

My own theory as to why this is definitely our final DLC is this:
We're currently at 17 packs for PC.
DLCs for console are released in bundles of two.
We're getting one DLC that's most likely going to be announced in the next couple of days (even today for all we know), which will bring the total number of DLCs to 18... Which is 9 bundles for console.
If we got another DLC after this one, how would it be released to console? Would it be on its own? In a bundle of three?
Which is why I personally believe that the one we're getting is the final DLC

(If we do get another DLC after this one I'll be more than happy but I really don't expect this to happen)
While that feels right, Planet Coaster ended on two non-bundled DLCs, so it's up to them (one was branded, so that's probably the reason, but it was also the finale pack. The other branded DLCs never even made it to console).

Barnyard does seem like a DLC that'd struggle to sell on its own. That said if the finale is a bigger pack, I could also see it being a standalone update. Price wise it would be expected to be around the same price as a typical bundle at 1.5 times a normal DLC (On the Australian PS store an individual DLC is 14.95 AUD, bundle is 22.95 AUD, a ratio of 1 to 1.54).

I'm still not convinced echidna is anything but a reference to the music track really. The only ones that seem like actual leaks to me really are
  1. Hamadryas (This really couldn't be anything else)
  2. Goodfellow (Once again I don't see anything else really refering to this)
  3. Markhor (self explanatory)
Aaaand that's all, the others all have some weird quirk that I can't be confident for them. Secretary and spurred are way too vague of terms, dik-dik and Sifaka are missing the "name" or the most popular species and I don't really see them picking another species over those.

Maybe I am way too optimistic lol but I think it's important to note the three that seem most certain are way higher on the meta wishlist than the rest (barring secretary bird but too be fair both words in its name are too vague anyway).

Dik-Dik and Sifaka are, in my opinion, just as unique names as Markhor, Goodfellow's and Hamadryas.

Plus, like the Markhor, they have going for them the fact that not only have they been added recently, but have also been removed (which for me is hard confirmation).

Names like Cuvier and Baird are also not in Dictionary so Kirk and Coquerel can also be missing.

I do agree on secretary, it has the least going for it, on echdina less so, but I also understand where you're coming from. Fact is, that Echidna is one of the words added to the dictionary later, with Hamadryas and Goodfellow's. Also the fact that there is a track with Echdina name actually makes me think that Echidna is even more possible, because it's on their minds.

Unfortunally yes, secretary and spurred are the only ones that i'm doubtful about since the terms are kind of vague but also they where added at the same time as the other two so what else would they be refering to?

Echidna and secretary are the only animals in that pack that i really want, and markhor has also been in my wishlist for a while.

I still can't help but think that all of this animals minus the dik dik fit the bill for animals that were supposed to come in a particular DLC but we're cut (Hamadryas and tortoise for Arid, Secretary for Africa, Tree ro for Oceania, Echidna for Australia, markhor for Eurasia)... So.maybe they are just that. Scrapped content. Or they were already partially worked on because of that and it was easier to finish work on them and put them together in a collection pack.

Part of me wonders if an animal we know for a fact was scrapped, and is included in the dictionary (even if added a little further back), could rear its head for this final DLC...

Honestly, man, I think they may have made these animals a long time ago, but they just didn't release them for commercial reasons. There is an objective fact, that is, the animals people want are often those they have seen. Apart from the stars that almost every zoo has, there are always a few animals that belong to specific regions and specific groups of people (such as GSNM for Chinese players). So if I were a game developer, I would not put all the star species of a certain region in one DLC at once, because if all of them are satisfied at one time, it also means that the purchasing intention of people in this region is satisfied at one time. People will pay for only one animal they want in a DLC, but not if there is none. For example: If I put GSNM, Golden Pheasant, Tufted Deer, PD Deer, Asian Golden Cat, Wild Yak, Chinese Giant Salamander and other animals in one DLC, there is no doubt that Chinese players will buy this DLC crazily. But if I divide these animals into 7 DLCs and appear separately, it means that Chinese players are likely to buy all 7 DLCs. So, like I said before, let's take this all in stride, because the game really is on the countdown.

I'm anxious even though I don't have high hopes. That sucks.
Well i think in your case there are still chances for Palla's cat since not finding Palla's in the dictionary doesn't mean anything since other names such as cuvier's or Baird's don't appear in there anyways. So since there are still slight hopes for the cat You could be a bit anxious haha

I have absolutly no hopes for any of the SA animals i want since none of their names or associated words appear in the dictionary so i'm not anxious because i don't expect anything for me in this pack 😂
