What the new secret feature should be

The question is do they do it by getting rid of the dead bodies from Odyssey or upping the PEGI rating of Horizons?
i would have thought this could be worked around.... simply ask the players age and then for ground content block players not old enough to see dead bodies from playing with adults. At that point any content which is inappropriate can either be trimmed down or cut completely.

but the bigger concern for me would be that would mean no money at all from horizons players who may otherwise choose to upgrade to oddy. Obviously i do not know how much FD make from game sales, but if all they have to rely on are microtransactions then that would be a very worrying temptation for FD to go full free to play type shinanegans.

obviously this issue hugely goes away if they release a new paid premium DLC (albeit that new content would have to be splintered from the main game)

Well that is what we have now except the gatekeeping is done externally to the game by having the two options on the launcher for Odyssey or Horizons.

I expect they will not bother merging Horizons and Odyssey until they have that new DLC nearly ready to go as that way involves no coding costs that are unnecessary before that point.

Right... Totally forgot about that.
Since I'm not doing any shooting in Elite, I shouldn't mind them removing the bodies but unfortunately I hate censorship like the plague. So no. Up the PEGI.
Sorry kids (who will play the game anyway...), it's the only way.

I've never understood how Elite Dangerous originally got rated PEGI-7 in Europe. At least here in the states, the ESRB had enough common sense to rate the game for Teens.

PEGI has some really big loopholes in it - you can commit as many war crimes and atrocities as you like, it's showing the consequences which would increase the rating - and ED walks right through them. I don't think Frontier did it deliberately - it's not exactly marketed to the 7-16 age range! - it's just PEGI being useless.

(What they did do deliberately was omit large amounts of things you can do/see in space from Odyssey to ensure it got a 16 rather than an 18, of course)

Isn't the PEGI rating irrelevant for games sold online?

AFAIK it only applies to games sold in boxes, as the involved parties have so far failed to make it apply to games sold online.

I think the age ratings here in Germany are relevant and I guess in other countries too.

I must admit, I've done...questionable things in my time.....

indeed, again its a PEGI stupidity.... i have no problem elite not having gratuitous violence, i dont want to dismember or disembowel people i shoot, or see body parts floating in space so that is no loss for me.

but there is some decent gameplay which is so obvious it should be a thing for any logical POV which is not included and that is atleast partly due to PEGI

and it makes no sense either.

if you worry about "protecting the children" really what is more violent, shooting a person dead, or shooting them with a stun gun and dragging the unconsious body into a cupboard so they cant be seen?. PEGI 16 it seems has no problem killing people.............. but playing a stealth role where you do not kill but incapacitate and hide the person... that is a step too far apparently....... uttlerly bonkers.... and that does take away from the game imo.

It should not be base buildings
It should not be ship interiors
What is missing from the start?
Landing in earth-like planets.
We should be able to land in the Moon and Mars as well, or any other body that physics allow.
This is what I'm really missing from the start.
Elite is about piloting spaceships and have places to go.
Btw, it has been a waste of resources to develop a leg system. It is nice, but It is not what this game is about. Would have been better to have new ships instead.

This time we should be able to land in Earth, Moon & Mars, like the old versions did.
If we get the Moon and Mars would be nice and not much of a stretch. Atmosphere and environmental hazards, clouds, water and earth like planets etc better play NoManSky or Star Citizen than wait for Frontier.

What they could do try would be some kind of incorporation of the Park games into building bases and homesteads would make perfect sense but I don't think Frontier is able to.

Age guidelines are always a bit weird. Particularly with Hollywood films. It’s apparently ok for an under 18 to watch some mindless slaughter but OMG we must protect them from naughty words.

Here in Germany it's all about violence. So yeah, Elite has a rating of age 6, while Odyssey is at 16... If you can shoot at people that's basically a guaranteed 16. Machine violence, space ship shooting, explosions, that's all fine for kids here. It's also mostly about the content itself than about how hard or complex it is when it comes to age ratings here.

Buuuuut the new feature! Apart from what I want it to be, I think it will be something that encourages more gameplay in the Bubble to keep players together. I'm under the impression that's what they are trying to do. I am also under the impression, Odyssey content is not on their list of things to further support or enhance specifically.
So... In Bubble, supporting community and PP2, not on ground. Adding in the "Frontier, what the hell?!" chaos effect.

It's gotta be cockpit cats (I have two of those. Horrible idea!.)

EVA would be awesome, would use Odyssey assets, means less work, but wouldn't have overlap with its content on ground, so it could be violence-free. Not sure what we could use it for, because so far limpets do a great job, but well. I'd like it either way.

Combat. It's gotta be more combat because that's what they are pushing for years. So... Megaship destruction. There will be nodes and modules on Megaship that can be destroyed and it will fall apart bit by bit and epically explode. Easy to hook up with PP2 and combat stuff in general. Totally not for me.

Re-watching once again the movie Prometheus, landing on a planet, I started to remember in which space game was landing on planets with atmospheres where there was a storm ? Poor visibility or various other bad weather conditions ?

I know of a few action-RPG's that have this, Mass Effect series, Star Wars Jedi series, etc. I'm not sure about sandbox titles though.

No Mans Sky has various sorts of "storm" conditions which can happen on planets. Starfield also.

(Both avoid what would likely be the trickiest problem with ED weather - multiplayer synchronisation - in one way or another)
