General My master list of Stations/Bases improvement suggestions

Over the course of a year I've explored some of the galaxy, and I was keen to get the space and on-foot experience. Here are my thoughts on what would be a nice change or minor addition to enhance the immersion and add obvious functionality, in no particular order:

  • a "warehouse" station service, where you could rent storage space at given station to keep your more precious cargo in between missions (not everyone has fleet carrier)
  • advanced docking computer feature that would automatically request landing pad when you approach 7.5km, togglable in ship computer settings
  • increase landing pad infringement timer slightly, some heavier ships are fined before they can propel themselves away
  • speeding warning is confusing - it doesn't do anything in the end. remove it, or increase it but then have some actual effect like cancelled docking permission
  • add longer timeout after leaving the airlock to remove "you're trespassing" warning when you are actually leaving the station
  • update the ship elevator animation - it's a bit janky as the lift bumps up and down - looks like the lift speed has been increased but these "bumps" along the way haven't been adjusted
  • adjust free camera to be always usable while ascending/descending your ship (instead of "no signal")
  • add some new voices for the flight control
  • allow commanders to land 180 degrees "wrong way", since the pad is a turntable it doesn't matter
  • for stations under Thargoid attack (open and PG only), add a "maintenance time allocation quota" timer that redeploys (and pushes away) landed ship after x seconds / minutes to free up the pad and prevent pad hogging
  • add an advanced maintenance option to purchase (for some materials) an FSD boost injection (but cheaper than synthesis and instant) to increase the range of the first jump. Availability dependant on economy/allegiance/state etc.
  • add an option in graphics settings to control the visibility and intensity of the landing rectangle hologram - separate from the pad number
  • add unique features and visuals to the super power home stations in headquarter systems to make them visually "theirs"

  • add an option / mission to work as station security so that you can eliminate wanted enemies attempting to land (allegiance and reputation dependant mission)
  • since station security uses SLF, have an option to enter them from inside of the station while on foot, if you take up the mission (or just use your own ship, but this would add immersion)
  • double station's weapons range and range at which patrols see and engage hostile targets
  • add a station weapon inside landing chamber that effectively OHK those who grief defenceless commanders taking off
  • increase the no fire zone to 15km to prevent any long range weapon griefers from camping from the edge of the zone - you want to shot, get ready to be shot at

  • ability to land at and explore some installations and megaships, reusing interiors from odyssey or existing stations - offer unique on-foot missions (or, rather, rewards) therein
  • ability to legitimately gain access to level 1/2/3 buildings on a more permanent basis, maybe if you're allied with a faction or did certain missions
  • with the access, the scientists inside could give on-foot exobio missions, exploration, salvage etc (currently only guards/folks outside give missions)
  • ability to exit horizon bases on foot, just add some doors
  • upgrade engineers "closet" to something more worthy of their reputation - maybe give their workshop a model of one of the odyssey labs, perhaps vary them between engineers
  • ability to rent/buy a room at star/ground bases - reuse Hab dorm room, just add it as lift destination in space stations. Availability related to reputation. Add cosmetics to decorate it.

Not everyone likes that you can do that with an FC.

No, far to automated.
  • increase landing pad infringement timer slightly, some heavier ships are fined before they can propel themselves away
Maybe, I haven’t had an issue with this when I was fully in control of my ship for years, but maybe.
  • speeding warning is confusing - it doesn't do anything in the end. remove it, or increase it but then have some actual effect like cancelled docking permission
It warns you that you are speeding, a minor collision while speeding is a fine a major collision while speeding, the other ship is destroyed, is a bounty and attack by station guns.
  • add longer timeout after leaving the airlock to remove "you're trespassing" warning when you are actually leaving the station
If you fly out of the slot above 70 in a strait line you won’t get the warning if you are dawdling out slower than that…
  • update the ship elevator animation - it's a bit janky as the lift bumps up and down - looks like the lift speed has been increased but these "bumps" along the way haven't been adjusted
To me it looks like it is working hard under a heavy load.
  • adjust free camera to be always usable while ascending/descending your ship (instead of "no signal")
You get the no signal when the camera is the far side of something solid from your ship.
  • add some new voices for the flight control
  • allow commanders to land 180 degrees "wrong way", since the pad is a turntable it doesn't matter
That assumes there is nothing in the pad itself that needs to connect to the ship.

Should apply to all modes NPCs hog pads and need to dock too. If the station is burning this will lead to the destruction of the ship so no.

I thought the synthesis mats for a jump boost were common, I will admit it is again years since I jump boosted, to be frank I really don’t see a need for this.

  • since station security uses SLF, have an option to enter them from inside of the station while on foot, if you take up the mission (or just use your own ship, but this would add immersion)
The SLF is an RPV I am not sure they would work through the hull of a station, taking a station one might be a better option possibly from an office on the concourse which would not limit you to having a ship with SLF fitted.

That would also double the range in which you might get scanned which is not going to be popular with those smuggling or otherwise trying to sneak into the station.

I think the anonymity of the meeting room ties in well with their reputation for secrecy as it reveals nothing about them.

Besides it would detract from the current fantasy going around the forums that base building is coming.
