Powerplay 2.0 - Equal rights for Colonia !

So much effort has been invested into PowerPlay 2.0 and so much of the Galactic power struggle has been laid out ready for Commanders who have new opportunities to become actively involved. With access to all of the previously locked away goodies now available through each faction, albeit with a significant grind.

( btw I thought we were doing away with grinding? such as engineering mats?).

Why are none of the powers seemingly interested in a prime piece of real estate out at Colonia? The leveling up in each faction requires committed effort by commanders and a prime indicator of committed, surely, is having made it out to Colonia. Power Representatives are knocking around at some of the Colonia stations already.

So why miss out on on both fronts - real estate and dedicated commanders. This could be a very interesting saga, with each power fighting it out for a Colonia land grab. Exploration and bio data is accepted for merit conversion but the actual act of exploring and then going to a particular place is ignored.

Can commanders build a space station out at Colonia? I am still a little confused but I think these player sites have to be adjacent to existing powers? which rules that out?

I digress,

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR COLONIA !!!! - I demand the right to be subjugated.

If they were to introduce PowerPlay to Colonia, I'd like to see new powers rise out there, rather than being connected to the existing ones in the Bubble. I wasn't around for Yuri Grom's ascension, but it could be fun for something similar to happen out there to create a three or four way tussle. The introduction of Colonisation would make this area of space under PowerPlay very interesting!

... or the Colonia council grows a pair and starts taking over nearby systems, expanding down the Highway, until we reach the Bubble ... and unleash HELL!

There is probably a bunch of big transports full of Powerplay contacts trying to make their way out there. I imagine they have undermined each others drives to the point that it may take until the next Thargoid War before they get to Colonia.

Joking aside, I think a little mini-saga could play out where proxies of the bubble powers set up camp in Colonia and all hell breaks loose.

Quite simply because it wouldn't work. There's not enough systems (72) to work with this, especially since they're all within a single jump from each other.

That's before you consider how few systems are reliable sources for bounty hunting, rare goods etc.
Remember this is not Powerplay 1- as long as there was one system that can generate influence they can all feel the love.

The problem is getting powers to Colonia.

Colonia Council expands into empty systems down the Highway and colonizes them ... problem solved.

I'd love to see the King rise in Colonia and subjugate its inhabitants... (well, the explorer factions, anyway)
Well - Delaine Terminus already exists...

True enough, although there's not exactly many systems to be shared around each power and some of them are pretty awful to support.

Even with that, it would take a long, long time to reach the Colons.
It depends whether Colonisation can only begin in the Bubble, or from any suitably populated system. If it's the latter, I can see Colonia growing quickly. If it hits sufficient size, say 150+ systems, I could see two powers rising locally, then adding more as it grows.

I thought I heard mention of it requiring some distance to a populated system...but I can't even verify if that was a fever dream.

Personally, I think the limitations should be organic rather than a set limitation. For example, costs or whatever is used to represent effort would increase exponentially the farther you get from populated space with additional factors such as distance to specific economies affecting growth.

It'd certainly make sense to put different Powers in Colonia since otherwise they'd just be fighting uphill on the distance-from-HQ penalties and risk losing their presence permanently entirely if their systems got undermined - though it's hard to think what those powers should be: Jaques/Colonia Council is obvious but would gain far too much positional advantage over anyone else if given Colonia as the HQ, and it'd just be a bit weird if they weren't, like having LYR's HQ system nowhere near Sirius. But there's basically no other named individual out there with anywhere near Jaques' fame.

(And ideally, you'd want four separate Powers so that each ethos could be represented on each action type, which is really going to start struggling for names; I think you'd have to dual-use the engineers to get people that anyone had heard of, at that point)

Remember this is not Powerplay 1- as long as there was one system that can generate influence they can all feel the love.
True, though any reasonably central system as HQ would cover most of the populated area with its 30 LY radius, which does take out some of the strategy.

I thought I heard mention of it requiring some distance to a populated system
Whether or not colonisation does, even the most well-supported Powerplay push can't expand at more than 10 LY/week on average.
