Sounds like a massive overreaction by Frontier to me. I've got to do the 5000ly for Palin soon (once my broadband gets reconnected), and was hoping to use that trip to top up the funds to get my carrier, and make a half decent dent in the PP rankings (first module maybe). I was quite looking forward to taking the Mandalay out for a shakedown run and seeing some good return from exploring. Now, not so much.

Mandalay is excellent; it's SCO handling is exceptional. It's a good ship. As for Frontier having a little panic, that's almost a give-in these days. That anyone looked at the numbers and said "this is great" and not "maybe that's a little bit excessive" probably says more than anything else. They mean well, but the endless pursuit of slowing cmdrs down just does not resonate at all well.

That's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to this trip. I reset my account at the beginning of the year to experience Odyssey at it's full on a fresh CMDR. While I really enjoyed doing the exploration trips the first time round years ago, being able to do exobiology, and therefore making a much more significant profit on the trip this time round is definitely going to be a more objectively rewarding experience.

You wouldn't have had exobiology then but I doubt it'll be anywhere near a billion for that sort of a trip.

Definitely. I'm not anticipating multi-carrier levels of profit, just a bit to top up the coffers that are already a good chunk of the way there. Who knows, I may get the proper exploration bug again and just keep flying for a while. I can remotely fly a fighter if my mates want to do some bounty hunting together. All my mates said I was insane when I went to Colonia for the first time; it started out as quick jaunt out of the Bubble for funsies. They really don't understand exploration at all!

This is how it starts. "Just going to pop down to the shops.." and then 13 hours later you are absolutely nowhere near the shops.
