Pre-built ship modules

I'm curious, why can't the pre-built ship modules be stored, like any other modules? Instead, they can be replaced, but the pre-built ones will be sold.
Thought to store my Mandalay modules to make it lighter and jump further, but there's some reason I can't do that.
I get that pre-built modules sell for 0 credits, just like the default modules with normal ships, but at least, these can be stored.
What's up with that?

It's to stop the following:

1. Deploy pre-built ship
2. Store "free" modules
3. Load "free" modules onto other ship (dropping rebuy)
4. Delete pre-built ship
5. Goto 1 ...

Basically if you could store them you'd have a massive module duplication exploit with the additional advantage of reducing rebuys on all your ships that you load them onto!

I see what you mean. But FDev could have handled this much better. As the "default" modules have probably some property attached to make them sell for 0 credits, pre-built modules could also have a property, which makes them equippable with only the pre-built ship. Like a ship ID.

So that you don't put them in another, not-paid-for-real-money ship.

Same as above, plus I did pay real money for the ship and modules.
Was considering buying the Type-8 Stellar, I'll still buy it, but for CR now.
Thanks for the info, guys.

But this was simple and certain to prevent ch people exploiting them.

At any time you can get back your prebuilt ship and modules by selling etc and redeploying.

Oh yeah, that's true. I'm half way to Colonia now, just hope nothing bugs out and makes me go back.
Thanks again.

This has been a complaint since the first release of these prebuilt ships, and exactly this solution was suggested. It hasn't been implemented so far. I'm not aware if it was considered or even perceived by Frontier at all and maybe dismissed for some reason we're not seeing. If there is a way to get behind this, I'd be interested as well.

That what you proposed definitely makes sense. With one small issue: only very recently whines complains about pre-build ships looking too much as Pay2Win had settle down a little and such a move revitalize those to beginning for sure.

P.S. have opted for default Mandalay while having T-8 and Pmk2 both Stellar. Simply because to my liking too many modules on Stellar Mandalay I will have to replace later for my exploration needs.

I took ARjay's advice and dumped them. I'll get them back, when I'll need them again.
Got to admit, Mandalay is pretty OP. Hudson City is a walk in a park, now.

Can't see a logical reason why this should flare up again, but they weren't rational to begin with, so who knows.

The main issue was/is the possibility to store modules of the original prebuilt which you have engineered, to be able to make any meaningful changes at all like outfitting for different roles, and be able to revert them without losing the engineering. To this day I'm not really sure about this point, whether possible (in the meantime?) or not, do you get your engineered modules back when you redeploy it? It was chaotic at first and still is confusing, can't find any clear message about it.

Search a bit about this on Reddit. Seems you can rebuy with engineerd modules.

Oherwise, you could test it with a G1 blueprint first. Apply, self-desctruct and see.

No, you'll have a warning that you are selling engineered ship but when you did engineered modules are gone forever (as when any ship is sold). Upon re-deployment we have ship outfitted exactly as purchased for ARX initially.

I’ve only brought the base ships, as I’ve not been interested in the Stellar kits, but I only view the ARX ships as free hulls.

Even if I buy a Stellar Cobra MkV, I think I’d only engineer the supplied core modules as they’re unlikely to ever be swapped out, and any optional internals will be brought with credits so I can swap them out to my heart’s content.

Exactly what I did to Stellar Pmk2 and never regretted after.
