Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Only because it's fun to make completely unfounded speculation about dumpster fire projects. :p
But why always Polaris?
Because the Polaris is so big, internally they've decided that each one will have a dedicated instance to unify passengers, crew, travel. So a server handoff is always required for this ship (and all future cap ships) when boarding/exiting.
(And why is lift asserting its right to orbit that station? ;))
Because the lift is a vehicle in SC that physically transports people around so it needs to record people into its physical location instead of being a teleport tube like how every other dev would do it.

Lots of "This clearly isn't the game for you" and similar type comments against a valid talking point.
Well, I mean they‘re not wrong. A buggy, dull and unfinished mess of a game clearly isn‘t for me, either. 🤷‍♂️

Long Time I've not followed. Is the polaris bigger than the Idris? Did they released the Idris too?
Does the polaris Comes with all capital ship features? From what I remember you were supposed to have a crew to move it, and you could hire some kind of semi sentient Ai to mop the floor..

The Polaris is smaller (166m), more of a 'capital ship killer' supposedly. The Idris is in game but only as an NPC. (Currently they seem to cause mass client crashes whenever they spend too long on screen together ;)).

NPC crew have just been ruled out for the official '1.0' release. Whenever that happens.

All of the many crazy features described for them are nowhere to be seen:

What other capital ship features were you thinking of? (The 'command and control' RTS module? That's also nowhere to be seen ;))

Oh no npc, I was essentially thinking about that feature, I kindaremember the guy with the mop and how every npc were supposed to live their life on the ship...

So Idris are in the game, but what happen when you go inside if there are no npc? It's just empty ?

They just got an interior recently. CIG have been running events where you have to fight passed NPCs and try and take over the ship. They kiiinda work. (Although jank & falling out of the ship aren't unusual ;))

the buggy and unfinished isnt a problem imo..... becaise the game IS unfinished (and buggy)

i also dont mind things taking a long time so long as there is interesting stuff going on or at least the potential of interesting things happening...... there is a limit of course, i like having nods towards realism i dunno, for example repairs taking time - on the condition that we have other options whilst said repairs are being done. As the game is unfinished i am not too worried about dull parts at the moment.

I am fine with that...... however there is a limit i am NOT fine with things taking absolutely ages for the sake of realism. .. ie repairs can take time, but i dont want them being delayed for ages due to parts / staff shortages and taking months (unless that is a part of a side mission to actually source said parts or skilled staff)

personally i am not judging anything like that yet because the game is unfinished (and will be for some time) and a lot of the stuff being moaned about may be less dull when complete, and timings can likely be balanced down the road anyway.

its partly on CIG. they have an unfinished alpha mess of a game - which is fine and i have sympathy - but OTOH they are marketing it as a fully playable game now, and that is on them imo........ its cakeism from them and i am less sympathetic from that point of view.

Some of it's baked in now. Like the hangar elevator stuff. (CIG have sped up the ship elevators as much as they can without the ships janking completely through the platform. They still take ages, and ships still jank through the platform ;)). That's not something a designer can really dial down.

More notably though: CIG look set to deliberately dial up time sinks to drive subscriptions. IE the time to craft a vehicle etc. (See the leaks here from the same source that predicted the 1.0 feature set correctly. Other sources have also seen the same internal docs.)

Star Citizen has MANY NPCs, who else would pump money into such an absolute shambles?
