Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Alas I haven't fitted one yet... I planned to, then forgot 😔

Also I have a bunch of pre-engineered drives from various CGs that it's going to pain me to swap out.
While some people seem to have swapped the drives in whole fleets at a time I think that is too much fuss so am changing them as and when I get into a ship and feel like doing it.
The good news is that the right grade of SCO drive will outperform all the ore-engineered ones.

Hmm. I've still not decided who to ally with or, in fact, if I'm going to pledge at all. I'm unsure as to what benefits there are - although some of the module "rewards" are quite nice.

If I'm honest, I'm struggling with the whole concept but I do wonder if I'm missing out.
I am finding all the threads about PP2 in the other forums are making me less and less interested in giving it a go.

I’m just glad I got my Prismatics before all this. From what I can tell, the grind to get modules is now much, much worse. And I have little interest in supporting any of the political “powers”, they all seem like the same thing to me. I shall retain my independence, thanks anyway.

I’m sure it gives meaning for some folks, which is great for them. But I personally don’t intend to get mired in all that mess. 🙃

Servers are sluggish again...
Scientists have been looking for a solution to "Friday afternoon" for 5,000 years, ever since that one guy in Sumeria complained about the quality of ingots he got from that afternoon shift at the foundry. No real progress has been made apart from a short period in the 15th Century when some regions of Earth had both coffee and widespread temperance.

Went investigating signal sources. I think imma need to refit for more than 2 simultaneous limpets if I do much more of this...

Also I seem to be having a fallout with my autopilot, which has taken to clonking down hard and diagonal on landing pads...

But it got there in the end. Turns out there are other ports in Shinrarta than just Jameson's, and since they wanted some shipping doing within the same system, I took the chance to check one out.

Hi All :)

Servers are sluggish again...

Yeah I agree, since the Ascendancy update I'm also experiencing that the Gal map in general isn't very fluid at the moment too, (for want of a better word). Apart from the (reported ) Map toggle button bug it's also taking some time for the map to update when highlighting different systems that you have already discovered. In some cases I've had to refresh the Gal map a few times before the system shows up when clicking on it. It's causing me a bit of confusion as I usually bookmark several systems temporarily after I've discovered them to keep a real time record in a small area. I then sort those systems out in importance (Good mining spots or other interesting stuff), take a screenshot and then delete the bookmarks, only keeping ELW's or some terrestrial ammonia worlds bookmarked.
With the Gal map not working properly it's frustrating to click on those discovered systems and find that I can't get the system map to display sometimes. I've noticed this behaviour before though (before the recent update) but usually the system eventually displays in a shortish time. As I say though, now I have to refresh the whole Gal map, sometimes the system I want to look at shows up directly, other times it won't! 🤷‍♂️
In short, it has generally slowed down the rate at which I can explore, which is kinda ok in the sense that it's not really game breaking, I just find something else to do, mining or planet bio hunting etc. but obviously this sort of thing shouldn't be happening...I'm fairly sure it's server side issues though so it'll take some time to fix, or work better with less traffic probably.

Side note...Someone once suggested a while back increasing the amount of bookmarks you could have, and also having a choice of different coloured ones. I thought it was a great idea personally...ah well. 🤷‍♂️

Jack :)

I've also had some signals with approx one bajillion Composites materials. I assume it's from one of the recent "rebalances" and in my case the first one I found like that, I was in the Cobra what has no limpets. Luckily it does have a hell of a turn rate so I had a fun time zig-zagging through them with the scoop but it took A While ...
It is from the engineering rework from a little while ago.

All HGEs now spawn enough of what they spawn to more than fill your storage.
Some of the surface sites like Jameson’s Cobra spawn lots more data sources.
Random has been removed from engineering so you need as many clicks to complete a grade as the grade number G1=1, G4 to G5=5 etc. plus the number of each material in the recipe is now 1.

So it all is more predictable, a little quicker and arguably a little less fun.

Remembered to pay a visit to my holiday home system. It's a holiday home because it lacks outfitting, but it does feature some of the best skies in the bubble, I think.

Aside from that, ticked off my goal of getting allied with all 4 minor factions present at Jameson Memorial, then went off looking for materials in a bit of optimise the engineering of this cutter. It was a pretty good ship to start with, but I've fitted it with a new SCO drive, so obviously that needed a lot of tweaking, plus I discovered my life support wasn't engineered at all.

The ship is currently rigged for mining, with 512t of cargo space, and 39.97ly range. Sadly I couldn't quite get over the 40 without taking things out, or swapping my long range sensors to light weight instead, and I'd prefer not to. I get a lot of random scan data by pointing at NPCs from 10km away 😹

Tomorrow I shall make sure my new Mandalay has collector limpets, then take it on the same route. At this point, I can probably ignore HGEs since I today's tour basically maxed out several grade 5 material bins. The degraded emissions sites had way less at them, but are providing a more useful variety. But I'll focus on trying to do the job with material trading.

After that... I am not sure. Tempted to head into the black with the Mandalay, but alternatively I may finally pick a power and pledge. While I can make cases for Nakato Kaine, Pranav Atal and Lee Yong-Rui, I suspect I will go with Aisling Duval, for no better reason than there seems to be some level of player organisation there, with regular reddit posts suggesting target systems, plus a decently sized discord. In the long run, credits become meaningless, so as much as extra payouts for exploration data might sound good...I'm already sitting on over 2 billion in the bank with no desire for a fleet carrier, so... what would I do with that?

(Although it would be nice if more than 2 powers paid bonuses for exploring. That's a little bit stingy. Surely everyone would be interested in potential new territory?)

As we approach the imminent arrival of the 42000th post to this thread, I'm reminded of this pic from the past week...

...that has the number 42 as well as a rather psychedelic view of a station interior - the meaning of both this and that of "life, the universe and everything" remain a bit unclear as ever :]
