Dear Fdev, While we understand the additional workload this would mean, a big portion of the playerbase which used to have an account on Xtwitter has already left to Bluesky, including many ED Partners and prominent content creators who closed down their accounts on Xtwitter. We would really appreciate if you'd establish a presence on Bluesky! Thank you very much!

I have noticed a number of streamers (ED, NMS and MSFS) have started including Bluesky handles - not seen any deleting their tw@tters though.

P.S. No, my handle there does not include this forum username.

I was stuck trying to find an up-to-date figure of BSky users then I tripped over this real-time counter of users:

It might stop counting shortly as it seems the counter's user milestone was set at 20m (it is 19.645m as I tyoe this)

wowee! there must be like a dozen of them from elite!

Yeah not a lot there so far (or at least easily discovered) - I only follow BurrPit, Hull Seals and Elite PVE - but I don't go on very often, there could be loads I have not seen. Currently there is no FDEV account of any sort that I have noticed. Certainly I would suggest that there is little to support @Profane_Pagan's "big portion".

I stopped using tw@tter and headpage years ago, I was hoping that Diaspora or Mastodon would take off but I don't think I could even find my login for those any more. LOL

I'm pretty sure they sell-out soon: 📰 BBC
"The former head of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, created it.
He even once said he wanted Bluesky to be a decentralised version of Twitter that no single person or entity owns.
But Mr Dorsey is no longer part of the team behind it, having stepped down from the board in May 2024.
He deleted his account altogether in September.
It is now run and predominantly owned by chief executive Jay Graber as a US public benefit corporation."
If anyone thinks otherwise you are huffing some nice copium.

Like I said, Mastodon has not exactly taken off (8m users) in the 8 years (?) since I peeked at it - I would love it to grow as it is true open-source so maybe I should dig out my login for it. ;)

There is quite a nice balanced overview (sans rose-tinted specs) of BlueSky that is worth a read here:

people flocking to social media Y because X is full of bad things are, imo, making one main mistake collectively.
they think that the bad things they experience (like flaming, bots or trolls) are results of a flawed and/or unjust system they are a victim of, instead of realising that they are just having an experience of the reality of humanity they are part of.
truth, mastodon, threads... its all the same.
dont get me wrong, if you enjoy your social media, good for you. but if fdev makes news on twitter you go to twitter, not the other way around. should i get the cm to send me a msg on icq and myspace as well?

Why are you taking my sentence out of context? I wrote "a big portion of the playerbase which used to have an account on Xtwitter." Not the playerbase in general, and yes there is a massive influx to Bluesky from Xtwitter.
out of what context? that it was on twitter? in a thread about people flocking from twitter to b-s (bluesky) when quoting your own post about twitter you are irked i didnt mention twitter? im so sorry about taking that so out of context. my apologies. yet your vague argument doesnt make any more sense with it.
big portion, massive influx, many people, great people, some of them i know personally, very good people, best people... many of them real... what a great argument.
theres a lot of commanders on the forum as well and we dont even get the news in here.

It’s also silly to entrench yourself on a single platform.

There are third party apps that will post across various platforms, if there’s an uptick of your base moving, or simply opening accounts, on a new social platform it makes sense to do so also.
Its silly to have too many. X is like it or not near universal, while Bluesky is niche.

Tbf, I have complained in the past that instead of announcing things on their official forums they choose to use socials.

Bearing in mind that still less than half the UK are on socials, ignore watching the occasional video on YouTube, using any social media as your primary communication isn’t ideal.

But that’s moving away from the original request to set up an account on Bluesky.
And I'd have to (and FD as well) see actual numbers to back up the usefulness of such a new platform- given that you have the best platforms already (i.e. the offical pages and here) for actual information (as you point out) but choose not to use them.

I mean, it’s not your decision at all. It’s simply a request from someone who’s moved over. If FDev think it’s worth doing they will, if not they won’t.

There’s no need for you to move from Twitter, so I’m not sure why the request bothers you so much.
I'm allowed an opinion, no?
