Elite Dangerous | Ascendancy Update 1 - Thursday 21st November

And your point is? (not sarcasm, I literally have no idea what point you are making).

No company is perfect, and they all release a bad patch or have a rough update at some point, but this is the only game I know of and play where everyone knows not to play on patch day, because everyone knows it will be unplayable for hours after.

It really should be something they look to sort out, but then again you could say that about many of the bugs on the issue tracker.

Didn't you say:

Just mentioning it, and all...

I'm replying to this:

Only if every other established games developer releases perfect products and updates every time...
Egosoft can manage it ... to name one company.
Hello Games can do it for No Man's Sky
Mojang can do it for Minecraft

And that's just the main games I play. I am sure there's lots of other examples of companies that can update their games without the problems Frontier seem to have.

None of those game developers have "release(d) perfect problems and updates every time..."

Like every other game development company, they update, patch, patch again, and patch again.

Now, all three of those companies do a much better job at that that cycle than Frontier. Especially Mojang, which has a robust player-based testing environment. But they're not perfect. No company can hope to replicate every single combination of software, hardware, and drivers that exist out in the wild. But a robust player-based testing environment can catch the worst ones before they get into the wild.

Frontier treats such an environment as a marketing opportunity or something to be monetized.

"Don't play on patch day" pre-dates ED by a good decade.

I am assuming that what was stated in the Update Notes is what has been patched in this update the Ascendancy Update 1.
The actual balancing is yet to be implemented? Mauve Adder again. BBL

Man, I can't take all these crashes. I'm just a simple miner and trying to outrun bandits in my chonky T9 is not relaxing...also, who at FDev can I send the bill to for all of the limpets you've consigned to the void...

I will admit I know nothing about games development and server infrastructure. if I did, I'd have more money than I do now.
Frontier DO KNOW about that stuff though, it's literally their job.
If I was poor at my job, my boss would call me in to talk about it. Then there'd be re-training if I continued to be poor at my job. Then there'd be company disicpline procedure, then I'd be unemployed. Yet people give Frontier a pass time and time again? I expect better from Frontier. It's not like they are new to doing this (making games).
So just ignoring what i said then. This isnt a frontier issue, this is a "this is why all games have server issues at launch and post updates" issue. Theres only so much available bandwidth possible to go out between servers and players and a server increase can only do so much for a network issue.

I've completed 5 jump & system scans in a row now, it seems stability is improving.

If anyone thinks there connection problems are due to the internet they can try loading legacy as a test. It's just player traffic after a patch & is normal. IMO just report the facts so Frontier have the option to read the feedback & mitigate the issues next time.

BTW just got a Mauve Adder (matchmaking server) while typing this presumably because I was idle for a few minutes, I'm straight back in.

Seems like the balancing is already happening - see the reports about ship scanning buffs, for instance. There is apparently no need for patches to tweak the merit numbers, the update deals with stuff that actually need a client update, like fixing the dupe exploit or the CTD of the strategic view.
