Your Top 10 Animals of 2024!!!

Coquerel's Sifaka - I'm just gonna say it: I think this is the most overly criticized animal of the year.
Also, i just wanna quickly explain myself why i have been hating on the sifaka so much.
Basicly i think the exact opposite is true, its not nearly criticized enough. Not heavily pushing back against this is only suggesting to Frontier that they can "hide" a half-finished animal behind one good animation. And with the smaller team they apperently have now im very concerned that they will abuse this in the future and will do more of this sloppy stuff, and i dont know about you all but i myself dont wanna see a spider monkey that has one cool animation on the ground and is otherwise just a reskinned capuchin, same for the tree kangaroo and similar animals.
So if we show them now that its okay for them to do a sloppy job and they repeat doing that in the future, we will be the ones responsible.

I was not a fan of many animals from this year, so I'm just going with top 3. Barnyard animals are very welcome in game, but the choices were underwhelming.

HM. Spectacled Bear - I have zero use for yet another bear species, but it's a SA animal, so it deserves an honorable mention.
3. Hamadryas Baboon - still haven't used them yet, and PZ is getting really dull for me, but hopefully will get around to them soon.
2. Coquerel's Sifaka - I get it we all wish it was a New World Monkey. But it's not, and on it's own, it's just fine.
1. Markhor - the last of my favorite animals that had a realistic shot at being in the game. It's also the only animal that I was excited to get.

I know I’m not really saying anything too different than anyone else, but this year really wasn’t the greatest haha. Honestly despite my gripes with last years packs, I had a much better top 10 list back then. So with that being said, all in all this year wasn’t the best for PZ IMO. Of the two packs we got, both have some pretty glaring issues. But enough being negative, let’s talk about what I liked!
  1. Call me crazy, but I think the African Spurred Tortoise was one of my favorite animals of the year. We haven’t got a habitat tortoise since launch, and this is a fantastic Zoo Animal to add into game. Basically a clone, I still love it regardless.
  2. Without shock, the Sussex Chicken I think was a great addition. It however, is not my #1. Though it has a lot of good going for it! Being the only bird of the year, and honestly not a bad choice of chicken breed for a barnyard pack. Despite being a bird, I don’t think it could ever be my #1. There are birds that I find more useful, and I have been wanting much more. I wouldn’t swap the chicken for anything though (that would fall to others from the same pack).
  3. In third is the Hamadryas Baboon which I was very excited to get. They had a beautiful exhibit at the North Carolina Zoo. I have wanted a baboon for awhile, and it’s nice getting another awesome African animal. What makes it #3 is honestly …. I would have preferred a South American monkey. For what it is, the baboon is easily in my top 3.
  4. I got to be honest, once we get past the top 3 my interest really begins to drop. So I have less to write for each one. For 4th I have the Spectacled Bear. Another South American rep, I think it is pretty cool. Not my preferred bear, but that’s my NA bias for ya haha.
  5. The Markhor is a great ungulate, and I’m excited to place by my snow leopards. It was also another animal closer to making one of my local zoos. Neat.
  6. I really enjoyed the Highland Cow. Yeah it’s small, and the hair isn’t perfect. Either way it was probably the second animal I was excited for Barnyard.
  7. From here my interest drops even more. The Alpaca was nice, good barnyard staple.
  8. I liked the Sheep, really can’t be bothered to remember the name of the breed. But whatever. To be honest the breed choice didn’t bother me much, it got the sheep vibes across well.
  9. The Sifaka is also cool, but from being a weird pick and not moving right all the time brings it down a lot.
  10. The Pallas Cat is a cute kitty, and good choice for ZooKeeper. The face is weird though, luckily the remaster looks great.
Finally, here are all the animals I will rank out of the top 10.
  1. The Donkey would have been close, except for 2 glaring issues in my opinion. One being that the miniature donkey I think would have been a better choice, two being why doesn’t a donkey sound like a donkey??????
  2. The DikDik just barely makes it out, but of all the animals in Zookeeper I was the least excited for this. Having a small antelope is great. But we got so many antelope species in the past couple years, I’m kind of sick of them. If they had to do an antelope I think they should have done the blackbuck. If it could have been anything else, I wish they picked anything else.
  3. The Goat exists. Another caprine, though I agree a Barnyard pack could use a goat breed. However the choice is super weird, I didn’t vibe with it. Unlike the sheep, the African Pygmy Goat was a much better choice, and far more common, breed to use. Why wouldn’t they use the animal synonymous with petting zoos? Beats me.
  4. Finally, the Pig. Like the goat, the pot belly pig was a far superior choice and one often seen in petting zoos. Like the DikDik, we had so many pigs in the past year I wasn’t exactly excited to get another one. Especially one that seems much more of a production animal than a zoo animal. I wish it was a duck or turkey instead. But whatever, can’t change the past now.

1. African Spurred Tortoise - Really loved this little reptile it is very beautiful and a great filler species
2. Kirk's Dik Dik - Wonderful pick surprised I love an African antelope this much but again a great small filler animal
3. Hamadryas Baboon - Finally another monkey something I have been begging for, for years. But not one I really wanted, a but to similar to the other ones we already had for more liking but I still have to rate it highly for being a primate
4. Coquerel's Sifaka - A controversial little lemur, the animations are interesting and the leaping does look good, another madagascan animal is pretty cool but I am still confused as to why they tried so hard with the jumping only for the climbing to look terrible when there were other more simple and popular choices available that would more aptly fill the gaps in the games roster
5. Spectacled Bear - A South American animal so that is something, good rep for the Andes, ultimately like it less than I thought I would now we actually have it in game, just a bit to samey when there were so many better options, additionally SA has plenty of large iconic animals and more so needs the smaller filler animals
6. Sussex Chicken - A bird which is cool
7. Markhor - Another caprine is a bit boring and the eyes do look slightly off
8. Alpine Goat - Weird breed choice but it is one of the only 2 animals from this pack I regularly use
9. Pallas Cat - Don't really care for it as an individual animal plus it doesn't look great in game, but worse of all another stupid cat. We have more cats in game than birds or habitat reptiles which is just silly
10. Hill Randor Sheep - It looks good and that's about it

Not many picks I loved this year, ultimately not that surprising given we only got half the animals as normal, not much of a fan of domestics but happy for those that wanted them, although I really loved a couple of the choices and some of them will be appearing in almost every zoo I make from here on out, hopefully next year brings some choices more to my taste

So we all agree that the pig was a waste of a slot in the roster. Good.
To be frank if it was a kune kune or Vietnamese pot belly it would have a shot for my favorite animal of the year, but of all the bad breed choices its by far the worst for me as the other arnt just more common and interesting World wide but also in England with both breeds being popularised after beeing brought to England for petting zoos.
They are more important and interesting to british pig history then the tamsworth pig ever was

Bro really treated the african leopard like it deserves to be. Nice

Good lord. This animal fight montage. Absolutely disgusting. Who in Frontier came up with idea to put tapirs on pig rig 💀.

Edit: cuvier dwarf caiman animations dont match its size lol.

I completely forgot about the African leopard LMAOOOOOOOOO

It was so underwhelming of an Anniversary animal I actually couldn’t remember it. But yeah honorary last place to this guy. Yeah the model is fine, and it’s cool having the big five in game. But for the life of me, why did Frontier listen t to the African leopard people over:
  1. Birds
  2. New world monkey
  3. African crocs
  4. Deer
  5. Literally anything else but our second leopard species that isn’t really in zoos

Okay so it's been discussed a lot - in your experience - do the donkeys heehaw at all? Because I just watched the fight compilation and they absolutely do several times at 1:02:58

And then again in the trailer, at 0:43

So like can they or can they not? Tbh I can't recall them braying while in-game but I'll admit it's been a bit since I've last played with my farm zoo.
I got to be honest, I never noticed. I don’t think I’ve got them to bray before. I also don’t like to have my animals fight, so I would never notice.

I bet if the nile croc was the anniversary animal people would be equally dissapointed about it.

(Not me though, i wanted the african leopard and i want the nile crocodile 😂... I wish the anniversary was the rhea though)

Oh no way! Folks have been clamoring for an African crocodile - particularly the Nile - since launch. Not to mention, it's a ZT2 legacy pick!
Definitely would be fairly popular especially if it was as beautiful as the tortoise

It would also be a much better model than the saltwater crocodile, which is another thing I don’t think the African leopard is good at. The Amur leopard looks good, so not only did they pick another cat, not even it’s own separate species, not even good for the diversity of the roster, it isn’t even that much of an improvement over the Amur leopard. I’ll still use the Amur leopard, if I’m not making a big 5 zoo I will probably never use it.

At this point the second worst anniversary animal is the red ruffed lemur. It isn’t that bad, it’s just an almost 1:1 of the black and white ruffed lemur. But it’s not like we have a ton of lemurs/ monkey like animals.

I’m just surprised we got the African leopard after how great the red deer and peccary were as anniversary animals. It felt like a step back.

Every time i mention the nile croc most people aay they don't want it, that they want the slender snouted crocodile or any other africa croc.

Definitely would be fairly popular especially if it was as beautiful as the tortoise
The leopard looks beautiful and better than the amur one yet that doesn't make people like it more.
