Everyone new to the Thargoid war needs to understand first that Sol cannot be defended directly!

your best defence which is speed and the ability to permaboost.

Hunters have a speed of 750 m/s \ 1000+ m/s. How your speed will help here, they will always catch up if they wish. shields + ECM + "silent running" + heat sink = will help

upd: Hunters also see perfectly well targets that are heated to less than 19%

Scythes are much slower than Glaives.

Again though, trying to rescue and kill Scythes actually slows down both activities, that's why I say kill or rescue but not both at once. Plus if the Scythe has company you have more of a fight on your hands than you need for a rescue ship, so the extra progress is balanced by the time wasted to achieve it. Time that could be spent doing more rescues.

Rescue only got really boring ;) and I added some spice to it.

Now, I'll just skip the rescue.
I am going to try something like this: https://edsy.org/s/vFri2f9

Indeed; I've not played for more than a year, saw the recent news and was mulling joining in but... it's the usual ungodly mess of out of game information, forum confusion and focus on only the most obsessive and high end players being able to work out what to do.

And I'm lucky, in that I might be able to adapt in game as I'm still sitting on billions; but I don't know if I can really be bothered to find out what obscure gameplay and very specific AX build I might need... the last time I tried to set up to fight Thargoids, the claims were all for shield-less builds that just got murdered unless you knew a specific way to fly. So I'm not sure I want to bother this time, not even for Sol, if it's going to involve hours and hours of miserable poking about to even try, let alone the fear there's a hidden engineer grind in here somewhere first.
Can you click on a dot on the screen and press a button ?

If so, you are good to go. Happy scout hunting (enhanced ax multicannons)

Stay away from the interceptors, or support your local ship builder, you are a billionaire after all :)

That should work for scouts and even interceptors with others but its missing a shutdown field inhibitor.
and not sure what the seeker missiles will do.

I just left the seekers there because I had nothing else to use that slot for.
Maybe another beam laser but those seem to not do much to those I keep running into.

Well in all the rescues I have flown everyday since Thursday I have never been overhauled in a straight line only when I have tried to head towards my jump point before whatever was after me has left the radar, whatever they were were shooting antiFSD missiles for me to ECM.
I was in an Orca so only doing 507/642.

Are these hunters that rare or just incompetent?

My house is on fire! But forget about that, let's hose down the other homes in the neighborhood instead!

I guess this works okay as a game mechanic, but as a story about defending Sol, it's disappointing.
Very sorry, but you are number 20 in our list of emergencies to deal with. Please continue to hold, your emergency is very important to us.

I was going to check out Duamta.
I must be doing something wrong because Thargoids take my Krait's hull down to >10% in about 1 minute.

1 added the Field neutralizer as recommended

No amount of speed will really help with a Glaive but as with all problems the best way to deal with them is to try and avoid having them in the first place. Some tips that help with this;

Bookmark the rescue ships and put them in favourites so they can be quickly selected. Bookmark the Port you are rescuing from and temporarily put it in your favourites as well, until you are done with that Port. Switch the temporary bookmark to whichever Port you are rescuing from at the time.

To avoid being hyperdicted more than necessary filter the Galaxy Map by State and tick all states then untick Thargoid Alert, Thargoid Invasion, Thargoid Controlled, Counterstrike and Thargoid Titan, then apply the filter to your route. This will mostly ensure that you only get hyperdicted at the target system, if at all, unless it has no choice but to jump you through a Controlled, Invasion or Alert system due to your particular position and range at the time.

Use the bookmarks to quickly fly between destinations without worrying about them not showing in the Galaxy map due to the state filter.

I was thinking that a wing of three ships, two scythe killers and one rescue ship, makes sense. The rescue ship would concentrate on rescues but it's also bait.
Difficulty there might be getting them all in the same instance. Only one of them gets hyperdicted.

On the other hand if the system with the Titan is the beach head then it is perfectly logical to weaken it by taking out the support systems first. It's all about how you look at it.

My tree is on fire, I'll ignore the rest of the forest and hose it down, the other trees can carry on burning.

... Wait why is my tree on fire again?!
