Ships New ship ideas

Let's collect some ideas for new ships that you would buy with ARX if given the chance!

My list:

Large ships:

  • Federal Frigate (shields and utility slots)
  • Imperial Destroyer (firepower and maneuvering speed)

Basically, Large ships that are bigger than the current upper end of the spectrum, optimized for different purposes, with each design's primary focus being unprecedented in power.

Medium Ships:
  • Gunboat (turret-optimized, hard to crack combat ship)

Small Ships:
  • Spycraft (a ship optimized for silent running operations)

What's your list?

I won't give ARX for ships, only in-game currency. I will give FD money for cosmetics, voice packs, etc. Nothing that affects the game directly should be purchasable for ARX, although i've come to terms with the 3 month early access they are doing, even if i don't like it.

However, if you want to talk what ships I'd like to see FD add to the game, then:

Imperial Explorer
Moray
Boa
Constrictor
Tiger Trader
Cobra Mk1

Oh, and throw in Lynx Bulk Carriers just as NPC ships that appear near stations from time to time.

I see your point. But money needs to keep flowing, and ships are just the best way to make that happen. Other space-oriented games such as STO or SC prove it, and I would bet the numbers for the recent ships in ED prove it as well.

Hm, those are just names.... what kind of function, what design goals would you expect them to have?

If money should be the focus of what they add, then how about battlepasses? Lootboxes? Where would you ok be drawing the line? Mine in is at paying for in-game assets.

Oh boy... i guess you know nothing about the earlier games?

Imperial Explorer - basically an imperial exploration ship
Moray - in lore, can go underwater as well as in space. Not that we can go underwater in ED, but maybe one day.
Boa - Described as the Anaconda's big brother.
Constrictor - Fast mid-range trade/combat ship
Tiger Trader - An Asp on steroids. More space, more weapons.
Cobra Mk1 - original version of the Cobra. Just to complete the set. The Cobra Mk2 was never released due to design issues.
The Lynx Bulk Carrier is this huge thing that would often be found near stations in F:FE.

I think a lot of the pre-Odyssey ships could do with a proper rebalance for the way the game works in 2024, so I was thinking a Mk II of a lot of the current craft would be good. But, and here's the fun part, when those are released, the older versions are withdrawn for sale.

Could also start updating some of the lore, in the same way that we now have SCO; introduce some clever new platform for ships that does away with the slot rebalance we had for scanners and Planetary Approach Suite and all that. If you buy one of the new ships you don't get all those fake modules, you just get the kit you need built in and it's there in the Fire Groups ready to go. Over time you could then have all ships end up working that way and withdraw the OG ships from sale.

And start with the Sidewinder, so new Cmdrs don't have to deal with 10 years of baggage.

This also creates a whole class of vintage craft and you could even add a second-hand market (for in-game credits, not ARX or real-world money!) so collectors can buy an original unmodified Sidewinder Mk I for funsies.

Fascinating idea! At least if it is not the only thing that happens regarding new ships.

I'm still waiting for some proper Hybrid Ships. The Hybrid Fighters(XG7 Trident, XG8 Javelin, and XG9 Lance) released over 6 years ago. I really love their Design but I never use Ship-Launched Fighters so they're basically useless for me.
