Gauss cannons rendered inoperable immediately as soon as I get in SOL

Hallo. I am trying to reach SOL to fight the last Titan, but as soon as I exit the witch tunnel and get to SOL, I get a message that there is an acidic environment and nearly instantly my Gauss cannons are rendered inoperable.

Without being interdicted or anything, immediately as soon as I get to SOl and still in supercuise.

I tried 4 times in a row, 4 times the same, so...
Is it a bug or there is some game mechanics that I missed? I am fully equipped with caustic sinkers etc.

this is working as intended due to the anti guardian field each titan is surrounded by. Use AX missiles and the guardian nanite launcher, that's all you need. A thermal vent beam laser comes in handy too

You have Guardian weapons, and they get disabled by the Titan. You have to engineer them to resist that, from what I understand. Or just use the AX weapons you can buy at the Rescue ship.

OK, so there really was some game mechanics that I had missed.
I'll do it.
By the way, how many caustic sinkers shall I need to equip? I'm in a Krait MKII, so I don't have so many utility slots...

I prefer 2 caustic sinks, for a round trip (in and out after).

One may be able to get away only using 1 CS if one can synthesize reloads

or

if one only plans on going into the Titan but not returning after attacking...IE: ship going boom...

In fact, a Krait II only has 4 utility slots, just like my iClipper. I recommend:

2x Caustic Sink
1x Heatsink (Sirius model if possible or mats for synthesis)
1x Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer

I run shieldless, so no boosters needed.

I bring 2 also (and also in a Clipper) but not because I expect to actually survive and leave, just because half the time I use both of them up just getting in there. I must be slow or something. :)

Are you boosting while traversing the Maelstrom cloud?

And what is your top boost speed?

Yes. My boost speed is 554. I'm just slow in general. And my situational awareness is lousy :)
You're not trying to chase the dancing HUD target? On arrival I just boost boost boost straight ahead (well, avoiding mines, NV on) then as soon as I can make out a red'n'grey cloud globule I head towards that.

Mines? Which mines? Are there mines?
Yes, you are expected to pick your way through a cloud of acid filled with heatseeking mines. Congratulations and welcome to the fleet!

You need a ship that idles at less than 20% heat, and ideally has good self-repair facilities (limpets and AFMU). Krait Mk2 and Imperial Clipper work well but there are many builds out there.

There are three "zones" near the Titan:

(Outer) Normal space outside the caustic minefield.

(Middle) A caustic minefield that does constant caustic damage, and is filled with heat-seeking mines that expel stronger caustic clouds and will mess you up if they get close and detonate. Visibility is very limited in the caustic minefield. Signals and navigation will be messed up. Head toward the angry red cloud with lightning.

(Inner) Once you have used the Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer to get through the Titan's pulses (4 pips to sys and hold the pulse neutralizer hotkey down), you are in an asteroid field where - good news - there's no caustic, but - bad news - there are many interceptors, scouts, missiles and turrets around the titan.

It took me a while to realise that I needed to take multiple pulses, and probably boost toward the titan. Watch your speed indicator to see how fast you're being slowed down or pushed back; the timing for the pulse neutralizer can be tricky at first. 4 pips to sys and hold it down, to give yourself a bigger time window to get through the pulse. Also, remember that there's a trade-off - boosting will get you through the caustic quicker, but you'll also rise over 20% heat and attract mines.

Good luck!

I think i got near the thing but i missed it. I had begun to see asteroids, then I saw a bright light in the fog like a distant star, and i followed that. I boosted after it but then i found myself out of the cloud....

How can i keep my heading on the titan?

Just head toward the cloud until you see asteroids, then keep going straight until you can see the Titan.

Sounds like you're mostly on track, it just takes a bit of practice I think.
Timing the pulse neutralizer is hard and sets you back each time you miss it. I keep missing it even now.
You need to get it right several times in a row, so it can be hard to get it.
I boost, but - it's dangerous because it takes you over 20% and you get more interest from the mines and any thargoids that are waiting around in the asteroid field.

Well, there are quite some clouds everywhere. What people mean with that is there is some specific cloud that is slightly darker (imo in VR mode you cannot see it really). Other, more visible indidcators on where to head is watch for laser beams of other players as well as where the pulse is coming from the Titan emits here and there to push you back (where you have to use the anti pulse device). Especially the later is great to get your bearings (again). If you keep heading there, takes a few min, you should eventually see it. Once you are close enough the caustic will stop as well. I really recommend watching some video on how to get there unless you are the explorer type.

If you had flown in Anti-Xeno Initiative private group, like most AX players, you would not have gotten ganked there. ;)
