Owning a fleet carrier. My first impressions.

So, I finally got the FC.

I think Frontier has missed few really simple changes to make you feel that you actually run this ship. It feels more like a rental, where nobody knows or even cares who you are.

  1. Flight control, when I arrive or leave, has no idea I am the ships owner. They greet me as I am a random stranger. Not cool.
  2. NPC in the ship are completely oblivious to the fact that their boss/captain walks by. They blabber on like idiots.
  3. Guard at the bridge door jut stands at ease. This is unacceptable.
  4. There is an entire team in charge of fuel but they cant move it from storage to tanks. Weird.
  5. Thankfully, there are no vegans on my ship. No rubbish on the floor as I have seen in other stations.

6. I read somewhere, that If I go out there and start shooting at bad guys, FC will fire at me too.
7. I do not get a share when my FC wipes out bad guys with it's massive lasers.
8. massive cannons protecting the FC cant hit a planet, even if gunner life depended on it. Those beams seem to be shot at random.
9. What changes, when you get the FC, is how you outfit your ships.
10. In FC, there is no gravity but there is trash on the floor. I can only assume that at some point, my ship was infiltrated again by vegans or eco-terrorists who clued this crap on the floor. (proof: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...first-impressions.632359/page-8#post-10525966 )
11. Slowly but surely, I am starting to hate the FC crews inability to plan several jumps in a row. Seriously Fdev, what is this nonsense!?

Hello!

And, welcome to being a Fleet Carrier Owner (There's a club for them: https://discord.gg/EuCB9e2k).

There's also a FAQ here somewhere by @Factabulous ...ahhh, here it is, lots of good information in here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/fleet-carrier-faq.547219/

Regarding your list:

1, 2 and, to a lesser degree, 3 are really the same and are a much asked for addition. You "may" be able to get some use out of EDCopilot on that front: https://www.razzafrag.com/

4. This is a long standing gripe on these forums. You can search for those threads.

5. I'm glad you found something to like.

So...what did you name her? If you want to share.

Are you prepared to pay the weekly upkeep costs on it? https://cmdrs-toolbox.com/fleet-carrier-calculator

Not sure what aspects of the game you're into, but a fleet carrier is especially useful for exploration, mining and BGS work, and possibly Powerplay 2.0 as well...

I hope you enjoy it.

That must be magnetic trash, since there's no gravity on a carrier!

Congratulations.

It isn’t quite a rental you have more ownership than that but it and the crew are leased from Brewer who will have it back and return most of your deposit if you fail to keep the terms of the agreement.

1 and 2 are down to the fact you just paid to lease the FC, one of those people is actually the captain that gives the orders on how to do things you merely tell them what you want done.
3 The guard us there to prevent unauthorised access not to stop what he is doing and kowtow to you.
4 Personally I think this is a game mechanic to make betting an FC harder.
5 Not all slobs are vegans and not all vegans are slobs.

I think the big thing frontier have completely missed/ignored*with fleet carriers is, they could be personalised to a high degree via the ARX store. Creating a home from home. (Making the player feel invested in these things)
• With new interiors and colours.
• Purchasable things sets to place in the walkways and ready room etc. maybe let's hang up some space pictures.
• Varied or specific Flimley npc suits of your liking on deck.

I would say most cmdrs do not rent all the available modules because of no need and extra maintenance cost. So let's have some purchasable ARX modules to customise this ship to our liking.
• I'd like a bobblehead display room for my complete collection.
• or display room for my suits. And/or combined with the above.
• Perhaps a botanical room to display facsimiles of my discovered plants.
• some may even want a specialised Gary Numan room, because!

I am Flimley

* ignored as may not be financially viable

As I understand this, the security of the fleet carrier is done by the security forces of the system where he is. These security force are done by the controlling faction of the system. If you become hostile with this faction, your own fleet can shot at you. Like after being involved in some CZ against that faction.

That is a perfect occasion for learning emergency landing. 😉

Not sure if it's w bug or not, but my FC cannot shoot fish in a barrel. Wanted npc gets scanned, patrolling viper opens fire and my fleet carrier tries to join in.
"Tries" is the key word here...it basically shoots in all directions hoping to hit something. It's like something put of a movie where a character wakes up and while half asleep unloads an entire clip in random directions as they don't know where the bad guy is.

It's a bit different. I was starting to get kind bored because there is not much to do so this is a nice change.
And Now I have to learn how to mine Tritium. Damn ;)
So far in the years I have owned my FC I have mined very little Tritium, I did some before I set off to Colonia in it doing Exobiology on the way, I did none in Colonia before going on a loop to the other side of the nebula for Exploration and Exobiology, when I got back to Colonia I just parked in a likely system and offered a bit more than the highest price for Tritium in a buy order in my commodity market which was filled overnight that took me to SagA* and then back to the Bubble where a similar buy order was filled in around a week.

So probably no rush to learn mining.

Basically, do what you enjoy to earn credits and put out a buy order for tritium (higher price = quicker fulfilment) and sit back or do more stuff that you enjoy whilst the traders do their thing.

Everybody comes out ahead.

I have had a fleet carrier for a few weeks, and I'm decommissioning mine. I like having it, it's like a mobile station. I don't like the costs. Have I bought it? Have I rented it? The costs are too expensive. As has been noted, the ATC should at least acknowledge me when I drop out of supercruise to dock at it, but no, nothing.

So why am I decommissioning it? Frankly for what I want to use it for, I don't want to have to pay so much to jump it places, I can't make the profits I thought I could, and it's not as good as I thought it might be. I'll keep going with my Asp Explorer doing exobiology.

I'm keeping my FC. Theres this weird historical holiday period every terran year where I can just sit and grind up ther credits to keep the carrier funded for another year or two - after that, its convenience for my somewhat casual gaming sorta pays for itself :)

That only works if you are somewhere in so called civilization. Not even a whiff of it out here. I only have 1K reserve and 700 in the tank so I guess I need to go back to the Bubble, and load up and try again.

Welcome to the club!

Yeah, a thing most carrier owners (incl. myself) have a gripe with. At least the voice pack I got for my carrier (Yumi, I think it was called?) sounds friendly enough so I can mostly overlook it.
NPC in the ship are completely oblivious to the fact that their boss/captain walks by. They blabber on like idiots.
That's actually how I like it. The folks strolling in the concourse are off-duty and don't need to go all "OFFICER ON THE DECK!!!!" every time I waltz by🙃
Guard at the bridge door jut stands at ease. This is unacceptable.
Military etiquette demands that if they salute me, I must salute back. That would get tedious fast, so I give 'em a pass🤪

Yeaaah... That reminds me I should top up the tank soon... How hard can it really be to install a conveyor line between the cargo hold and tritium depot?

Ya sure about it? Last I heard about it from the lady in the canteen it's all mycoprotein, soya and algae, so everyone's a vegan on the boat, whether they want to or not:p
