Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Are you going to list every individual star citizen bug Twitch clip by Twitch clip or just wait another decade and make a compilation video?

I think it's kinda interesting how the hangars are degrading.

That looks like the game assigning the player to an occupied instance. (Or getting itself in some related form of quantum entanglement ;))

It's just another example of a Tier 0 unravelling over time. (And/or faltering as the game changes around it).

Hangars just seem to have dipped to Tier -1 even quicker than average ;)

A group of us just did the contested zone on Ruin Station, 4 hours to make our way through the zone, its huge and like a rats maze, we got 2 teams Infront of us and another two teams chasing us through, one of which caught us up but we dealt with them, we were victorious, we got lots and lots of advanced ship component loot and keys for the next two contested stations, including the security pass we need for the final loot hanger near the Pyro star, it contains modified ships.

That was fun.....

Was I not there to read all those posts or something? I've been here for 8 years watching the occasional posts from almost all of the genuine star citizen backers (good or bad) dwindle away to practically zero...and hell, I really miss the comedy option of an alternative post every now and then.

...and no, it's not in direct relation to Humbug or his posts...he's a big boy and tends to shrug off any sense of negativity the same as I do, we've both endured the required shame of being star citizen backers for a long time :D

There aren't many places left on the internet for SC fans (good or bad) to peddle their wares.

Spectrum and /r/sc are their own two safe spaces, and even there they are getting more and more pushback against dreams.txt.

Isn't the big news here that you managed to keep a group of players together for 4 hours without a server crash or people dying to elevators or other random stuff????!!!

5 hours, took us an hour to get everyone ready.

No... TBH, the game has been hotfixed a couple of times and its running a lot better now than it was just a couple of days ago, no its not perfect but improving all the time.

As @Mole HD said people only post their bad experiences online, those get shared about, 12 people able to play the game for 5 hours with minimal issue and have fun is not a story, its boring, no drama in it.

Its does make it seem a lot worse than it actually is.

Nah, not really. It´s actually the other way around. When people new to SC that are interested in knowing more about it hit that google button with a Star Citizen search they usually get directed first to CIG´s own website and its very own videos that show a non existent totally flawless impression of the game. See example below. Or they get flooded by a myriad of other dreamy content creators showing equally flawless versions of SC like Bored Gamer or Space Tomato.

Lacking widespread game press reviews of the game I think the community itself documenting and showcasing the actual issues with the game is the bare minimum that the market would need to get a minimally fair picture, and to compensate the 800 million funded CIG´s and shills marketing machinery. I understand some SC fans may not like that in this thread or others plenty of issues with the game are posted, but I am afraid you will have to get used to suffer that, as that is part of the every day reality of the game.

The latter part of that commercial is what we were doing, i don't see anything wrong with that, the universe has expanded, Server Meshing is in and working, the game does look like that, the latter part is the contested zone missions, its a PVE / PVP mix, in classic MMO terms its a PVP dungeon. They could embellish it more by showing the mountain of loot you're rewarded with for completing it.

What do you expect from any game developer? You're not expecting CIG to do an honest conference style commercial? That's what the internet is for, i hope someone does a good honest conference Star Citizen video, they are fun.

7 years and $400 million, games take time to make and cost money, even for a veteran studio and still it can go wrong, who knew...

The actual game begs to differ though:

Etc etc

Server meshing is majorly broken.

And that is just the simple barebones static part. Even CIG knows it. It is so broken that they have decided to spin it as a "preview" Live. It is so broken that Chris Roberts in the letter from the chairman has had to acknowledge (with nicer words) they can not just add many more new features as it is, and that they have to try and fix the current level of broken.

I suspect that they will just wait patiently until everyone gets used to it and normalizes this new increased level of brokenness in order to remove the "preview" tag from it.

CIG is the best at manipulating its community to make them dance to the tune they want.

the game does look like that,
Except, of course, when you fall through that planetary surface or any station floor, or when your ships randomly explode when you are admiring the sunset, or when you crash to desktop or get a black screen, or things become invisible or...

Collapsing in a station. The clip could be from years ago because it's been happening that long:

Yeah, stairs have got teeth again...

There's also been an uptick in player collision incaps.

Definitely intriguing, given server health should improve all of these things. (Desync, physics etc).

That is actually a good point. Nah, a fair number of the usual game press reviews and scores would do just fine.

Lacking that, and in the mean time, posting the myriad of constant bugs and issues and how the game breaks in this and other threads would have to suffice I suppose. Those are also quite funny and good laughing stock kind of entertainment because they happen so often. SC is good for that too.

There's definitely a random factor there when you consider people saying they had hours of play without issue (assuming they are telling the truth - not aimed at you!!!) and then you have people saying its unplayable (assuming they are telling the truth). We've got a couple of new refundians over on the refund sub. People who bought in recently, presumably drawn in by the bright lights and marketing, and now looking to refund because of how bad it is.

I think this is the biggest problem for CIG, they want to market the game as "Playable Now" while having buggy releases. Doesn't matter that sometimes it gets better, that sometimes they fix bugs, because the next patch breaks things. Those who are tolerant, who are fine with the eternal alpha, or been in for a long time, accept it. But newbies, some learn to be tolerant, but others see the state and become new refundians.

That waste of money and time would be probably easily avoided (or at least somewhat minimized) if SC had widespread game press reviews and scores showing how badly broken the game is.
