Empire Accused of Power Grab in Federation’s Heart

09 JAN 3311

Imperial agents have been charged with attempting to seize political influence deep in Federal territory following the Battle of Sol.

With the aftermath of the Thargoid Invasion still causing upheaval across populated space, there has been a marked effort by many factions to establish themselves in systems impacted by Titan Cocijo’s assault in December.

Sofia Trevino wrote a summary for the Federal Times:

“In recent weeks there has been turmoil in Sol, as political, corporate and military interests come to terms with the impact of Titan Cocijo’s arrival – not to mention the civilian cost, with billions of refugees still displaced in surrounding systems.”

“But an unexpected element has emerged, with ports and outposts reporting a significant increase in positive Imperial sentiment. This has been tied to Princess Aisling Duval in particular, currently enjoying a good reputation among non-Imperial populations due to her work as a delegate to Aegis and a champion of humanitarian causes for those impacted by the xeno war.”

“Shadow-President Jerome Archer has stamped down on this flourishing popularity and was described as ‘outraged’ by the notion of Imperial influence in the heart of the Federation. Republican media outlets, counteragents and even the Proactive Detection Bureau were deployed to quell the initial unrest.”

Princess Aisling has denied any involvement in the growth of Imperial support, but did imply that Federal populations ‘should not be spurned for the consideration of new ideas’.

It has been noted that a core of Aisling’s supporters remain active in Barnard’s Star, which no doubt concerns the Federal government.

So is the FIA just openly ignoring Winters and carrying on like Hudson's clone is President, or...?

Either that, or the Congress has yet to act upon it, I think:

My first act is to order the Federal Intelligence Agency to shut down the Proactive Detection Bureau. The illegal surveillance of all communication ends now. We will propose to Congress that the Domestic Counter-Terrorism Act of 3307 is revoked

We were hoping months ago that Winters would allow our Imperial spies unhindered access, but it seems that Federation inertia prevents that from happening!

Perhaps Archer should counter this by becoming an even more widely liked and respected humanitarian.
Being a despot is easier. You can just bash people who don't like you into submission. Or toss them into prison. (But Archer is actually almost so overdriven as that absurdly egotistic "Epilogue" trailer, which I am certain was done on purpose)
Its all kicking off again 🍿
And this time, there are (currently) no Thargoids to keep the Feds and Imps off each other's throats. If Frontier want to kick off a war between them and then add some Thargoids into the mix once the fire's burning bright, I'm for it.

From the sidelines. With popcorn. Should be hot enough that I wouldn't need my own heating.

The Empire sees the Thargoid attack and the following humanitarian crisis as an opportunity to invade Sol, and still Galnet writes about Archer as the raging lunatic/cartoon villain and Aisling as the humanitarian angel. Frontier really doesn't like the Federation.

I think it's pretty balanced. This isn't an invasion, this is a popularity contest/propaganda contest. They've both done similar things here, it's just Aisling has to actually deny it whereas Archer's entire political niche is "yes I do want the thought police".

Maybe it's the bit about Archer being "outraged"? I can see that, but Archers on the defensive here, Aisling cant really broadcast a similar reaction though I'm sure she is that her plans fell through. She certainly has similar tantrums, she just tries to be more subtle about it to not tarnish her brand. "Am I not the most beloved person in the Empire", lol. And Premonition really did a number on her by just outright revealing she doesn't care about slavery or anything, it's just all for the popularity.

Besides, none of these powers are supposed to be just good, if Frontier dislike the Federation they dislike everyone. It's just differences in how subtle each power is about it. Archer inherited Hudson's genes in that regard.
