Returning to the fold

I was a kickstarter supporter and played ED at the beginning. Then life got in the way and I stopped when I was playing Horizons. I am looking to return with a new gaming machine.

Will my gaming profile still exist? Is there a way I can check?

If I have to pay to start again then so be it. It has been many years away.

As you kickstarted you're presumably on PC so your profile should be just as you left it. (Console accounts got transferred so there might be another step if your account was for xbox or playstation, I'm not sure)

Download the launcher and it should take care of you

In addition to the game fleshing out, the third-party tools these days are pretty impressive too.

I'm a kickstarter backer also.

Frontier Developement -> login with the email of your account and you can submit a forgot password.

Once there if you go to My Downloadable products to see what is available to you.

But you'll want to go to Partner Keys. ie: for myself as example it has my Elite Dangerous (steam) , E.D. Horizons (steam), and
my E.D. Horizons season pass (steam) keys.

I was away myself for a few years and returned last Dec 2023/Jan 2024. I would take it easy as you get situated and
don't forget there's plenty of you tube cmdr videos on everything. Raiding settlements took me a couple months of trial and
error.

Welcome back CMDR

o7 CMDR PORNSTAR

ps: once a month F.Dev has a live broadcast on Twitch on wednesdays. 10AM - 11AM PST. Next one is Feb 26th iirc.
Anyways, you can be awarded a ship skin(s) while watching the broadcast. You'll have to link your F.Dev E.D. account with Twitch.
Or is it linking your steam account to twitch. either way you can look into that.

Avoid getting a steam key if you want to support Elite / FDev more.

If Steam or a Steam key is ever associated with your account, then by contract 30% of all future purchases associated with that account must be paid to Valve by FDev, forever, regardless of how/where the purchase or micro-transaction is made, including purchases made directly in FDev's own store, etc

By keeping your account with FDev only, any money you spend entirely goes entirely to supporting FDev / Elite

(If you're worried about VR, it works fine regardless of which game-stores are or aren't associated with your account)

I Didn't know that purchases of ARX through F.Dev's own store shared a cut with Steam. That's why I have bought ARX each month through F.Dev and not via the Steam page.

Yes your profile will still be there, but in Elite Dangerous Legacy 3.8 universe. Locked at the old server, fully playable with what you had, but incompatible with what's going on on the real Elite universe. Your future progress will stay locked there and will not transfer into an existing universe. It's a dead end.

INSTANTLY at least upgrade to Live 4.0. It is a current universe, you can do all except on-foot stuff.

Even better, of course, upgrade to Odyssey. There you'll have new ships too.

I'm also recently back after an 8 year break.
If you buy Odyssey, don't freak out: after pressing "Start", you will find yourself on an unknown planet, with "0 credits" displayed in the corner...but this is only the on-foot basics tutorial!
Almost had a heart attack when it happened to me, eh eh :'-)

Welcome back! I just came back about 2 weeks or so ago. The game has changed a lot, yet it hasn’t changed much. :)

The biggest hurtle coming back into Elite has been the key bindings

welcome back. There is much new things awaiting.

What he said ☝️

I started in 2020 about 2 months after personal Fleet Carriers were released, there's been a whole lot of new stuff. Sadly, some additional game play was not permanent (galaxy narrative) and is now gone, seemingly forever(?)...

But there is still so much more to do..

What was the last thing you remember being added to the game before you stopped playing?

Engineering Changes, New Ships, New, ummm, Travel Mode...Odyssey...Fleet Carriers...a second SRV...Powerplay 2.0...AND...A totally new, upcoming feature called "Colonization", where a player makes a claim, fulfills requirements and forever becomes the "Architect" of that system...exciting times to return to the game...welcome back

, seemingly forever(?)...
I wouldn’t say forever. Between making Mechan (primarily AX-focused YT [content] creator) making it into Frontier’s community program, and some funky noises when the last Titan went up in sparks and a caustic flare, I have my suspicions the Thargoids are not gone for good (if OP is into that content, at least).

It’s more just a question of when they show up again I think, else all the people who like AX have little to do (or nothing if they are not interested in the old style nebula fighting or moving to California for CZ-style fights in open space). And it’s definitely a good one with the upcoming colonization.

Yeah, I think we've been set up for targeted strikes in the bubble from the Thargoids now.
