Where can we see (animal you haven’t seen IRL that’s in game)

Hey everybody
Thought I’d bring up a topic that can kill some time on the forums
Animals in game you haven’t seen and can anyone recommend a place where you may see them. The animals must be in game.
I shall start with mine, I will also mention zoos that I been to that have animals that I simply missed out on seeing. I am from New England USA btw. Having spent a lot of time in Africa as well as national parks of North America, I’ve seen a good amount in the wild as welll.

Feel free to help or list animals you haven’t seen and would like to be directed towards

Sloth Bear: go to zoo in Boise and you could not only see her but feed her some meal worms! Poor meal worms... :( My siblings and I have actually made enrichment for the zoo's bat-eared foxes with meal worms as well. :( The zoo also has: African Wild Dogs! My siblings and I went to a behind the scenes tour where we were able to learn about their diet, and observe them during training in a kind of close setting. Which was awesome! This zoo isn't the biggest or most "impressive" but the work they do in conservation means they are well worth supporting! As far as I know they almost set the precedence for zoos and conservation.
Disney's animal kingdom's Babirusa exhibit is cool. We saw them with our grandparents. They are way more elegant than you would expect for pigs. Plus the Exhibit is like being in the rich lands of Asia somewhere. but, that was over 10 years ago it might have changed...
I'd love to someday see:
Dhole
Pallas' Cat
Wombat
Any Wildebeest!
Arctic Wolf
Dall Sheep
Moose
Fossa
Quokka

I don't think my recommendations will be of much use, because they will all be European, but if road ever takes you here:

Beekse Bergen, Netherlands, (Addax, African Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Wildebeest)

Parco Natura Viva, Italy (Eurasian Lynx, Giant Otter, Przewalski's Horse, Fossa, Arctic Wolf, Wildebeest (again))

Zoo Szeged and Budapest Zoo, both in Hungary, both have (or had) Wolverine

If you want to see Dall sheep and moose I got a suggestion for ya having lived in Alaska.
Never seen Dall sheep in captivity but I have seen them in the wild, head to Denali National park and you can see them all over the place. Plenty of moose there as well but the Alaska Conservation Center has moose worth checking out.

These are the one I have never seen:
  • African Leopard (I have seen Amur and Persian leopards)
  • Amazonian giant centipede
  • Antillean Iguana
  • Bengal tiger (I have seen Siberian, Sumatran, Malayan and Indochinese Tigers.
  • Black-Tailed Prairie dog (Might have seen but can't remember, I know I missed them in Sam Diego)
  • Brazilian Wandering Spider
  • Brown throated sloth
  • Chinese Pangolin
  • Cloudless Sulphur
  • Common death adder
  • Common wombat
  • Dall sheep
  • Danube crested newt
  • Dhole
  • Eastern Brown snake
  • Egyptian fruit bat
  • European peacock (might have seen but can'tremember)
  • Formosan black bear (I have seen asiatic black bears, just not the formosan variety)
  • Giant burrowing cockroach
  • Goliath beetle
  • Goliath frog
  • Himalayan brown bear (I have seen grizzlys and Eurasian ones)
  • Little penguin
  • Nine-banded armadillo
  • Pallas Cat
  • Priboscis monkey
  • Quokka
  • Sacred scarab beetle
  • Saiga
  • Spectacled flying fox
  • Titan beetle
  • West African Lion (I have obviously seen other subspecies, both asian and african)
  • Wild water buffalo (I have seen tonnes of domestic ones though)
I might be forgetting something, but overall I think I have seen quite a lot of interesting animals, which I am happy for.

The leopards in San Diego are Amur leopards, not African ones. I know they’re in an Africa-themed area but they use amur leopards as a stand-in, I guess due to conservation reasons
I remember seeing the Amur leopards in a habitat next to snow leopards.
I sow the African leopard habitat in the African rocks acacia woodlands part of the zoo, that’s strange to lie about what animal is on habitat.

They don’t lie about it though, it says Amur leopard on the signs and also on their website. They openly state what they are.

I don't think zoos lie about animals. Mistaken identity happens though! Especially at the smaller zoos. Leopards are not an animal found in smaller zoos too often. Do non Amur leopards exist in North American accredited zoos???

Want to see:
  • Some form of Asiatic Black Bear, not specifically Formosan
  • Chinese Pangolin (or any pangolin really)
  • Dhole
  • Proboscis Monkey
  • Platypus (I know they’re in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Haven’t been there.)
  • Little Blue Penguin (They’re at the Bronx Zoo)
  • North Island Brown Kiwi
  • Quokka
  • I’ve technically seen a Tasmanian Devil at the San Diego Zoo, but they were all bundled up in their hollow log shelter so I couldn’t get a good look at them.
  • Saiga
  • Wisent
  • Pallas’s Cat
Haven’t seen but not passionate about seeing them:
  • Black Wildebeest
  • African Leopard
  • Grey Seal
  • European Badger
  • European Fallow Deer
  • Red Crowned Crane
  • Dama Gazelle (I can’t remember if I’ve seen them or not.)

Roger Williams can help you get some of the more obscure animals out of the way!
  1. Giant river otters
  2. Takin
  3. Babirusa
  4. Binturong
  5. Bactarian camel

Birch aquarium in La Jolla, CA (San Diego area)
They were all bundled in their shelter and not visible as it was a very hot day. I know I’ve seen them elsewhere but I forget at the moment.
Also the Bronx Zoo has the little blue penguin.

For many of the zoos I have visited it feels like the Bronx Zoo and Franklin Park are very close to being able to be remade in game. At the end of they day both struggle due to the lack of birds though.

Watching an episode of The Zoo (Bronx zoo), after Tundra the polar bear died, the keepers made the call to remodel the habitat to accommodate 3 dholes. Guess I have to visit the Bronx zoo sooner than later.

South Carolinian here so I can maybe help a bit with semi-nearby stuff. Zoo Miami has kiwis. There’s also only a single facility in the US that has European badgers, which just so happens to be in Florida… except they aren’t open to the public.

Birmingham Zoo is definitely your closest option for Pallas's cats. Very, very few southern zoos keep them, but they’re definitely around once you go further north. Sticking with Alabama, Alabama Safari Park has black wildebeest - I’m planning to take a weekend trip to Alabama soon with the wildebeest being one of the big draws.

The only publicly visible pangolins in the country are at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago - quite the trip, but so worth it if you ever make it (they also have Pallas’s cats and grey seals btw)! They’re white-bellied pangolins, however. You’re correct that SDZSP has the only platypus in the country. No proboscis monkeys, saiga, wisent, quokka, or to my understanding true African leopards anywhere in the US, unfortunately.

Fallow deer and Dama gazelle are both all over the place outside of the AZA (as well as within the AZA for the latter). I’d be shocked if you couldn’t find a safari park relatively nearby that keeps the deer but probably also the gazelles as well.

Your others are all around in varying capacities, but I’m not aware of anywhere in Florida or the greater southeast with them. Of the ones I’ve seen, I’ve seen them at:
  • Asiatic black bear - Virginia Zoo, Metro Richmond Zoo, Capital of Texas Zoo
  • Little penguin - Dallas World Aquarium
  • Red crowned crane - Fort Worth Zoo (missed them at Dallas Zoo a few days prior)

with the Americas incoming
I have never seen bush dogs or sakis
Sakis are somewhat surprising - they’re the single monkey species I’ve seen at more facilities than any other! They get beat out by gorillas and the common lemur trio and tie with chimps if you zoom the frame out just a bit, however.

Bush dogs are increasingly becoming a rarity in the US, however. The entire population is elderly, kept at four or five total zoos. Both zoos I’ve seen them at (Atlanta and San Antonio) have had them die out. They’re a truly wonderful little species so I can’t recommend enough trying to see them before they disappear from US zoos entirely… something that will very plausibly happen within a few years.

On that note, @DarthQuell did you ever manage to make it to San Antonio Zoo, and did you get to see their (now former) bush dog if so?
