Been wondering for a while now, when trading should I go for total profit or the percentage difference between the buy & sell price as shown on Inara? Which is best for getting through the ranks quickest?

Best as always is to do what you enjoy most, that said like everything other than Combat it is credits earned that counts towards ranking.

Go and mine platinum. You should be able to go from zero to elite in two nights if you do it right. Ask if you want to know how and where.

Here's a complete instruction. Try not to skip because lots of important info comes at random times. The method with a Python is the same as a Type 6. I gave specific advice for the Python in part 2, but all the technique is in part 1. You should be able to make over 100 mil/hr if you do it like I show:
