Open-Only in PP2.0?

There isn't one in '76.
You can block a player for a single session but that has no effect next time you log in.
In Elite if you block another Cmdr that's it til you unblock them.
We're talking about a black sheet. The blacklist mechanism by its principle of action can not protect from gryfer, it's strange that people do not realize it.

Powerplay 2.0 is a rework of Powerplay - and Powerplay was released as part of the base-game. All players have access to Powerplay 2.0, whether they play in Horizons Live or Odyssey.

That's my mistake, I was convinced it's for Ody only and didn't even think about base game players :)

Try it for your own and you will see the truth. PP2.0 is available for Horizons-only players. Whether or not colonization will be available, too, nobody knows right now but FDEV (and maybe not even them :D ). This is a bit like discussing academic papers about the color of grass, when all you have to do is go out and lay down in a meadow.

So those who don't have the Odyssey get colonization too?
And essentially we don't have a single Odyssey expansion right now.

I haven't seen anything so far in any of the info they have supplied that indicates you need to walk around to complete anything in colonisation, so hopefully it will be both, Colonisation to me at the moment appears to be a glorified delivery CG with the end reward being a new stations/stations, so no reason Horizons only players can't take part. The question of whether we will get Odyssey only stuff probably hinges on what we are after, new atmospheric planets and stuff would definitely be an Odyssey only expansion, but there's no reason that stuff that can be done without legs should be Odyssey only, in fact that would probably be very difficult to do since both games use the same engine. At the moment we have content blocking based on assets that keep Odyssey and Horizons in separate areas, but trying to block something that isn't asset based but process based would be very much more difficult and complicated in the game engine.

For me it means only one thing, I can't see the full game stats, and since they do that, the conclusion is the same: There are a lot of players ignoring Odyssey.
Although it was clear a long time ago, after the release of Horizons on the 4.0 engine, otherwise there is no reason to do it.

I'm not so sure this is still true. While I was exclusively running Horizons 4.0, there was only one time I saw another commander on my radar while in PG. Even the AXI PG was deserted - and this was at the height of the Cocijo Sol invasion.

That conclusion isn't supported by any data, it's just a pronouncement, and goodness knows we see enough of those on the forums, the game is dying, the sky is falling......just another dooomsayer now aye? Guess I can put you on the "have a quick read, a good laugh and move on" list now.

What I am writing is beyond the scope of this thread and so I will post it in another thread:

Given that there has been no indication so far that it is an Odyssey only feature, I expect so.
its a crazy decision by FD if so. my gut tells me (unless confirmed otherwise) that even if not announced that it is, that this will be an Oddy only feature. Surely FD want to make as much as possible on this update and encouraging people to actually buy the expansion - which is as low as £6 in sales iirc - has to be better than giving it away, often to players who got horizons for free as well!.

its not that i dont want horizons players to get it........... but more that i do not think many would complain if it was locked to Oddy, and at the same time I want FD to make as much profit as possible on Elite - without P2W stuff added - to encourage further content for the game.

Open-only PP is a bit of a pipe-dream at this point I think... Powerplay 2.0 is already too well established and I can't see Fdev pulling the rug from under the solo/pg players and risking a drama (as much as I would like the idea).

But all we really need to fix the wonky solo/pg/open risk vs reward balance and lack of PvP utility are Powerplay PvP missions. Nobody would lose access to anything then, there would be content for PvPers and long standing issues (combat logging, blocking etc) would have a solution.

Would it be though?

Only Frontier know how many copies of Odyssey have been sold, similarly with the game itself (although we know that there are over 12M copies of the game out there between previously advised game sales and the Epic giveaway), and also how many active players own Odyssey.

given that what ever the number of Ody owners there are has to be less than the number of players who own Horizons, and assuming that the active playerbase want Elite to remain being primarily funded by a purchase the game get the "stuff" kind of model rather than a F2P type model with (at best if done well) cosmetics locked behind pay walls

then in the spirit of the game pitched to me that i bought into then yes, I think FD would be daft not to their new content as a hook to buy their paid expansion rather than give it away for free.

I am not inherently against the F2P game model for some games. But I bought elite as a pay to play and earn stuff in game and i think if Elite loses that it will be a detriment to the game.

its a sliding scale of course, we are already further down that road today than we were at launch.

I guess we will find out 1 way or another soon enough. I am not sure how accurate it is but the Elite Dangerous Wiki states its an expansion for Ody.

In other words, players with no interest in PvP would have to become content/targets for the PvPers. A bit of a one sided arrangement if you ask me.
I dunno..... if you are in open and are pledged to an enemy faction you have already agreed to be potential PvP content imo.

That said IF FD dont want to stop players who do not want to PvP playing in open or from signing up to PP, they could add a new open only mission template where only players who have accepted said mission show up as mission targets. i expect these would need to be shown on the gal map somehow otherwise it could be a needle in a haystack.

We will indeed.

Noting that Powerplay 2.0 was pitched as a major feature rework and released for all players to engage in, not just those who own Odyssey, even though it released with an Odyssey ship (Mandalay) as part of the same release.
