Shock Cannons should generate ammo, not auto-load it from reserves

The main flaw of Shock Cannons is that their ammo levels are pitifully small. Even with the modern engineering material levels, they're still painful to use.

What if instead of auto-loading from your reserves, they just generated ammo? They are supposed to be a plasma weapon, after all, and we know they can run on fuel.

This would be somewhat limited by the fact it would only reload ONE clip, so if you did deplete your stockpile you'd have to dramatically slow down your firing rate - but this would make that stockpile last markedly longer and make the weapon far more useful overall.

And they're honestly a really fun weapon! It's a shame they don't see more use!

i love the plasma slug engineered modification to rail guns - can't see why shock cannons can't benefit from the same effect 🤷‍♂️

What I'd really like is the ability to hold down (or have a dual fire mode which makes the fuel allocation used bigger) where you charge up for an R-Type mega shot.

That, or perhaps treat them as laser weapons where they can keep on firing if the WEP is full- the less full WEP is, the slower and weaker the shots. This would then make some rather edge case engineering and builds interesting, because to get the full power of the weapon you can't shift pips like normal.

I agree they could use some incentivizing. I played around with them some time ago and they were ok I guess, even fun for a while. But my trigger finger got tired, and they generated a bit too much heat for their damage, in my opinion. So I haven’t used them since.

Exactly! Why can't they be engineered?? Even the previously "hands off" Guardian weapons can be engineered.
Let us HiCap, LongRange, Autoload them. The regular cannons with 100 rounds is ridiculously not enough as well.

C'mon Fdev, give both Cannons some love.
 
Gosh now that I think about it, Enzyme missiles are a pain to unlock and the result is nothing but disappointment. How about showing those some love too? Buff the damage by 4x and open them up to engineering as well.
