What are your fun, unusual, or underappreciated weapon loadouts?

I fly HOTAS too but have the Kb/M set up to shoot as well. Not saying it's impossible but while I can hit 9 out 10 rail shots with mouse, it's only 2 out of 10 with HOTAS, even with curves set. PA's are easier. Maybe my old Logitech is just getting cheesy. I would love to try it with awesomer gear like VKB or Virpil. Maybe someday..
After having an X52, X56 and Warthog fail on me, I bit the bullet and bought Virpil...
KB/M is impractical for me, being left-handed and never managing to find a flight setup that worked for me, so thousands of hours with a HOTAS may have helped me improve a bit.
I can probably land 8 of 10 Rail shots on average, although, being ancient, some days can be great, another not so 🤣

I will agree, without a doubt, that finer control can be gained using a mouse for aiming, so not being picky!

My preferred weapons are Beam Lasers and Multicannons. I have tried others but always revert to the BLs and Mcs, as I seem to do better with them.

Not really a specific build, but I found the Double Shots mod on the Frags highly efficient for the max burst damage, and oh-so-satsfying (BABAM-BABAM-BABAM!). I have 4 with Incendiary experimental on my Python 2, and it wrecks shield when fired at point blank.

Also, Rapid Fire for Multi-Cannons has the higher burst damage compared to overcharged, and decrease the reload time to less than 2 seconds. And I love the sound of it. Great for Corrosive/Emissive since Autoloader is then not an option.

BTW, with these, watch your temperature...I like it hot ;)

My fun build is boring, its a gunship (see I said it was boring)
Just packhounds... boring old packhounds..... with a torpedo that makes the shield generator go boom nestled like a shining blue diamond in each salvo.
Surprising the heck out of gankers when they've just ganked my bud who's acting as a rabbit in an heavily armored T9. 😁

Bill

we usually work as a team of gunships doing that... frags, beams etc in each ship designed to do a shed load of specialised damage

Ha ha!
I outfitted 3 C2 torpedos with Lightweight and Reverberating Cascade on a 800+m/s COurrier, hoping to annoy gankers (nobody likes to have his Prismatic shield go down and take an eternity to regenerate, eh?)...and...I never managed to even launch them before they blow me up (does it really take 8-10 seconds for these things to get a lock???).

My fun build is triple plasma accelerators in an 851m/s Imperial Courier.

Also used to fly a Type-10 with 9 high capacity seeker missile racks, would love to swap in some pack-hounds if I ever unlock them :D

I once did an FGS with all dumbfires, got interdicted by an Anaconda, two volleys at point blank range and it was toast! I had fun with that build!

I have an Imperial Courier with 2 Shock Mine Launchers with the Ion Disruption experimental. Stripped down and does over 800 m/s and near constant boost. I usually keep it parked near Shinrarta Dezhra. I like to drop in and head towards Jameson Memorial to attract Gankers. As soon as they interdict I pull back throttles drop in and throw a string of mines while boosting away. I normally get away and get a few hits in. Gets to be fun cat and mouse. Don't always get away but fun

But do your mines even hot anything?
Last time I tried (8 years ago...) they could not hit sh*t...

Actually work pretty well. Not always but maybe 30%-40% of the time. Trick is to do a little circle as soon as you have control to spread them out before running. Ganker takes a bit longer to settle from the interdiction and if he hits one a chance it shuts him down for a bit longer making it easy to get away. Not trying to get a kill...just trying to frustrate the Ganker

Turreted Frags

I can almost imagine the look of horror on some peoples' faces right now, so let me add to that horror by saying i have them fitted on my Python Mk2. And it really works well. Engineered for high capacity. Just get close, pull the trigger, and basically wait for them to die. All you have to do is remain close (sub 500m), the turrets do the rest.
I used to keep a pair of turreted frags on the small hardpoints when I was flying the Gunship years ago; handy for swatting little ships as they try to get behind you.

My T8 has mining lances.... does that count?
I think they qualify it for the underappreciated category.

I have two FDLs one all multi-cannons the other all beam lasers, of course they are all turret or gimbal mounted. I consider them both fun and the mounts probably put them in one or both of the other categories.
My Imperial Clipper is all fixed mount weapons though as they are all seeker missiles that doesn’t count. It can be fun but it is pretty ineffective without someone to deal with the targets shields.
