Elite Dangerous | Trailblazers coming 26th February

It's much more likely that it will just be some kind of "colonization suite" of sorts. Something like an SRV hangar bay, except to transport and deploy the colonization beacon, or something. Much less exciting.

That's very possible, but it seems strange to have to equip a module to do that, especially module called a suite, I mean we knew you would be able to purchase the colonisation beacon from a vendor in stations, possibly in the main menu due to it being accessible both to Horizons and Odyssey players, but you also need to purchase special module to hold said beacon?

Yeah, wouldn't make much sense. Why can't it be in your cargo hold like everything else?

(Well, everything else except an SRV, I suppose.)

But of course this is all just wild speculation and blind guessing at this point. We'll just have to wait a few more days to see what it actually is.

Hi All :)

....
But of course this is all just wild speculation and blind guessing at this point. We'll just have to wait a few more days to see what it actually is.

One thing I hope is this Colonisation feature will be fairly logical and straightforward to implement In Game.
If the feature is going to be convoluted and lacking easy to obtain information within the game itself and particularly easy to find information on this forum then that is the main worry for me.
I realise that initially there will be 'hiccups' with this feature, that's something I'm expecting, but access to the features should generally be available as described above. Perhaps I'm being a bit negative here, but as you say, it's just a matter of days before this feature drops so we'll be able to hopefully get a more detailed overall picture as more detailed information is released....🙏...:D

Jack :)

As we all know, Elite Dangerous is famous for its massive amount of hand-holding and detailed explanations of every single feature...

Well, they needed to code in the limit of 1 at a time. Plus it is something that needs deployment - so being a simple cargo cannister wouldn't work. A module assumes far complex functionality.

You guys are overcomplicating things.
When you go to a station to buy that colonization claim, the galaxy map will open.
In a certain radius (hopefully more than 10 ly) you will have to select a system for colonization. If the sale goes through (you succesfully found and selected such a system) then that colonization beacon will "magically" appear in said system.
This whole "suite module" it's most likely something to be used afterwards, during the actual colonization process, probably something like DSS, only instead of probes, we place new bases.

Limpets sit in the cargo hold like everything else but they need a Class 7 (!) module to actually be deployed as "everything" ...

looking at the discussion at whole, I strongly believe that "Module" will be like the advanced planetary approach suite - and hopefully installed the same way. Each ship gets an additional (for that module) exclusive slot where the module is installed and thus the ship is enabled for colonization.

Wait .... E.D community overcomplicating things? no way! ;)

Except they've already told us we will have to fly there to plant the beacon, that the selection process for the system to be colonised will be done through the architect function where we can assess the system using the system architect GUI to see if it is suitable for colonising, you can't do that remotely, it has to be done in the system, there's no, just selecting a system on the galaxy map and magically the beacon appears. At least up till now that's the process as we have been informed, it could change before or after the beta of course, we will find out in a few days.

Hmm... I guess the "suite module" might be needed to actually deploy the beacon !? AfaIk there's no mechanic ingame that lets you actually deploy anything from within your cargo hold, right ? Except from SLFs and SRVs but these two need specialised hangars to do so.

Maybe that's what the suite module is - a beacon hangar.

That's possible, but why then call it a suite and not a hanger? We have SRV Hangers, SLF Hangers, so a history of calling things where stuff is deployed hangers, and suddenly we have a Beacon Hanger called a Suite? That simply doesn't make sense at all, oh well a few more days and we will know!

It's going to be a loooong 3+ days till we find out. I expect the FU Twitch channel to hit a new record in viewership. It's going to be fun watching the chat 😁 🍿🍿🍿

Hmhm... maybe because of the difference ? SRV/SLF are drive-/flyable a beacon is not !? Just a thought though... 🤷‍♂️

We'll see... or not... 🤷‍♂️
