Elite Dangerous | Trailblazers coming 26th February

the latest Burr video mentions that FDEV are releasing a new module to go along with the Trailblazer release, I hadn't seen that previously, but the wording is interesting, they called it a Suite Module
By the way, where is this information coming from?

We have one further detail - I saw a comment on the Buur video that eagle-eyed viewers could spot a colonisation tool in one of the fire groups visible in the Cobra Mk V trailer...

Sure enough (as spotted by @Disemboweled Ego on a discord) you can see at around 0:40 in the right-hand group:

"S-COLONISATION | INVALID LOCATION".

"S" for system, I guess. Could be a placeholder name. Maybe this is from the "suite module".

That has got to be it. And this shot of the new colonization module shows it's active in real space - just like the point defenses.

Could mean the beacon is deployed using a hard point, and invalid location may simply mean that the ship is in an already occupied system, if that's the case I can't see that being called a "suite," it could be part of it though, so that is nicely spotted!

Perhaps Surface.
If it is from the Suite Module the location could mean that it is a utility slot item.

I'd guess that the beacon is deployed in space, then you have to build the basic infrastructure, and once that is complete you can move on to building space stations, and ground stations if there's suitable planets/moons in the system. I hope they implement gas giant mining at some point, if only as an economy subtype.

They covered this in the stream. Once the first starport is complete (I think) the colonisation beacon turns into the nav beacon.
Which makes me wonder what the point of having any manual form of deployment for the beacon would be. It’s hardly gameplay in itself as you’d just fire it off near the primary star. Clearly, it looks like I’m wrong from the Cobra MKV trailer clip shown above…just seems odd to me unless there’s something pretty large missing.

I’d expected the beacon to just appear after you’d paid the credits for it in the neighbouring system’s station - maybe there’s something additional to do after all. Or, like the old bio scanner, we’ll all moan at the pointless mini game and end up with a simple point and click beacon placement system…not long to find out.

I wonder if the beacon needs to be close to the entry star, or if it could be at any of the other possible stars in the system.

(I'm using "entry star" rather than "primary star" because I think they are not always the same star, although I might be wrong here. I have noticed that sometimes the entry star is at the bottom of the system map rather than the top. I'm assuming that the top star is always the "primary" star. Or something. Has to do with which stars are orbiting which other stars, and their total mass.)

Yes, good point on the distinction of entry/primary stars.

I’m still not sure that distinction amounts to much in terms of gameplay if we’re given some kind of module/suite for the placement of the beacon.

It sounds like I’m grumpy about ‘gameplay,’ I’m really not. :)Just curious about what it’s all going to look like.

In summary, from the information given so far it appears that we'll have to make some kind of "colonization ship builds" in order to colonize systems. That it's not just "claim system, start transporting stuff to it with your Type-9." Apparently there will be a bit more to it than that.

In anticipation of the inevitable open-only colonisation debate?
And now my mind automatically wandered off in the direction of 'beacon interiors'
Does this means the servers will be offline for a few hours to update on Wednesday?
Based on historical trends, I would say that 'lot of" is more appropriate than 'few', in that statement.
I hope to be wrong, though. 🤭
