Being a Commander is great but what if players were to be able to be promoted to Captain after fulfilling certain requirements? Some requirements I would suggest is to own a fleet carrier and to achieve the highest perk in all 6 ranks (which I believe is Elite or Triple Elite). Those and perhaps some other requirements. Just a thought so as to give players a good sense of a long term achievement and honor.

Since it has been repeatedly stated that the players are Not part of the active militaries, Commander and Captain are both meaningless titles.
The game uses Commander in the same fashion as Captain, and it is equally valid. Consider that every ships' "Master/Mistress after God" in existence is a Captain.
If you want to style yourself a Captain, noone will stop you.

Commander is an honorific, not a rank. There is no one to promote you. You can promote yourself I guess.
