Not joking. I can't get my head around how something in beta sits on a live game. Aren't they mutually exclusive? If there is a wipe due to something, how do you segregate progress between the two?I can't decide if you're joking. They just very carefully explained exactly how that specific aspect of the update will work.

System Colonisation Beta Details - Elite Dangerous
Greetings Commanders, With the launch of our Trailblazers update we will be bringing System Colonisation to Elite Dangerous! The launch of System Colo...www.elitedangerous.com
It's just a standard new feature release, except with the caveat of devs adjusting numbers as progression is made. ... hence it's a pretend beta. Not joking. I know I'm being dense here - my noodle is saying non sequitur. I need a Dev's for Dummy's book.
I think the main issue with something like colonisation is that if they put it in a traditional beta it wouldn't get properly tested (because very few people are going to commit to proper large scale colonisation endeavours knowing that all their effort and progress will ultimately get thrown away). So they've decided (with a certain amount of confidence) to put it into the live game so people can get properly stuck into it knowing their efforts will not be wasted ... with the caveats that:Not joking. Remind me not to ask for a refund...

Thanks both! So they've decided (with a certain amount of confidence) to put it into the live game so people can get properly stuck into it knowing their efforts will not be wasted ... with the caveats that:
a) They reserve the right to tweak the numbers (e.g. they might increase the range or reduce the costs) and won't retrospectively refund (or penalise) those who did their first colonisation efforts using the previous (possibly easier, possibly harder) numbers.
b) They do still reserve the right to do a progress wipe should things turn out to be a complete colostomy explosion.
I prefer this update to be in the live game because, since they'll introduce new and old bugs, as with every update, it will happen once and not when a separate "beta" would be merged in the game. What it is not: there will be no progress wipes.View attachment 418123
Putting this here since that thread is locked - I'm sorry, but "monitoring data and making balancing adjustments" should be expected by default on the live game? Why even go to the effort of calling it a beta? Functionally speaking nothing about this is a "beta testing period", this is just "normal live game behavior".
Uncorrect word tennis I feel.Or just unprecise wording?
If 10 years of Elite, and 10 years of Eve Online has taught me anything, mine and your expectations seem reasonable to us, but they aren't to others.View attachment 418123

Double negative? So wipes could occur? Or just unprecise wording?
Maybe this will help: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ers-coming-26th-february.633405/post-10541368Not joking. I can't get my head around how something in beta sits on a live game. What is troubling me here is that it implies that live balancing & monitoring isn't already a baseline expectation from Fdev's point of view.If 10 years of Elite, and 10 years of Eve Online has taught me anything, mine and your expectations seem reasonable to us, but they aren't to others.
They're just setting expectations. The announcement they made isn't exactly new info for people that have been following but people can be dense.
