Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Claimed a system. Pretty cool process but that first megaship going where the heck it likes is daft, given the amount of control (lots) you have over the rest of the process.

Sat and thought about whether I can actually commit to the amount of cargo even an Outpost needs, given I can't play daily at the moment. Then remembered range of T8 was nowhere near the AspX so any CMM trading route was going to be a pain anyway. Couldn't find a nearby shipyard either so even summoning the T8 was a faff. So by the time it arrived I'd decided to nope out.

Since we're already into people asking the same question seven times every thread, I think I might give the forum a miss for a week too to be honest, might pop in to this thread now and then...

That's odd. The station you got the beacon from should be within 16 ly. My T8 makes roughly 40 ly empty. And about 24 full.
Did you choose a station without shipyard as a starting point?

Well the news is out. Are any of you guys excited by this?

My favorite part is that when naming your stations, you get to choose from a list of generated names. Or, you can get a custom name for ARX.

Hee hee.

I'm not sure how the community is going to react to the new stuff. Personally, I'm considerably less than excited. :p
That's actually my least favourite aspect. Custom station names? Maaaaaaybe. Constantly being able to change the name? Eff no for me.

I do love the cosmetics customisation though.

And the Corsair looks great apart from the large eagle beak. That feels odd. I may just need to get used to it though. It has a nice White Star shape I like.

But what I most like are those sexy ice asteroid stations. Mmm mmm mmmmmm..

Well done to Fdev with the roadmap and the work they put in last year. They could've just chilled out after trailblazers and teased something in the autumn.

Oooooh, and the Mandalay. It looks like I've got some outfitting and engineering to do after tomorrow's shift. I would've bought it but I can barely remember what a stable job looks like since the lockdown.

Ouch.

I'm somewhere fairly sparse, so the route for some of the goods the difference between 40 and 24 does add a bit of faff.

I did, and I also choose to go and mess about without summoning the thing first. Those are both in the Lessons Learned log now...

I would say it seemed odd I magically acquired the Suite. I guess it's priced in, and the Contact has it installed on your ship when you buy, but some part of me feels like it "ought" to be a module you buy that just doesn't consume a slot. Buy the module first then use it with Contacts as you find your desired systems, type of thing. As it stands it seems weird you could use the starter Sidey and make that into Johnny Appleseed without doing much else to stake a claim.

I've had that a few times too.

That was fun. Got disconnected from the game just after calling in the drop ship after finishing a battle. Had phone Apex whenn I got back in and, of course, my battery was down to 30% and I had no refills... I just crawled into the blue matter transporter before my emergency air supply ran out.

I was thinking though.

Wouldn't be fun if there was another SRV - or possibly a new module for the Scorpy - that you could mount one of these on:

Mine was odd like that too, I had just exited the SRV to make my final scan before I left and resumed my plot. I couldn't log back in, I had to close everything including Steam before I could get back in and the game lost track of my location.

Indeed, I was being sarcastic. I had hoped that people would not be able to name them, because I don't want the Galaxy even more riddled with stupid names than it already is, with carriers.

But I guess that ship has sailed.

I already saw a post of the first-ever station "built" by a CMDR. It was named "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." Great stuff, eh?

However, I am very impressed with FDEVs ability to create true grind. The sheer amount of hauling required is almost beyond belief.

Fortunately for me, I have no interest in "colonizing" anyway.

People wanted "base building." We got "select pre-designed items and haul a butt-load of materials so you can watch them appear."

Oh well. It does appear that some people are enjoying it, so that's good.

I will remain out here far from the bubble doing my thing.

I haven't looked into colonisation yet, but if, as you say, the hauling grind is that bad, I'll be steering clear too!

The haulage grind is something that will improve rapidly I expect. They've made two changes to CMM Composites specifically in the space of under 24 hours already.

In Paul's feedback thread a few people have pointed out that "a solo commander can build an outpost" is a great-looking hypothetical but once you sit down and work out wall-clock hours it's functionally impossible for anyone who only has evenings and weekends, so at the very least I think Outpost builds will improve soon.

Which of course is something a product manager could have worked out on a piece of paper back in November, but we move...

All sorts of errors today, think servers are way overloaded. Giving up for now
Officially b0rked, per Paul
