Sorry Cmndr, but I've never understood that thinking. My asp has shields and over sixty jump range. With engineering and guardian boosters there is no need to strip your ship down to a flying gas can anymore. I've never boosted into a mountain but I've landed pretty hard on high G planets when not paying attention and been fine.

Willing to bet my firstborn that if you boosted into a mountainside like I did at a zillion miles per hour, even Imperial Star Destroyer-level shields wouldn't have kept you away from the rebuy screen.

I've had my share of close calls out in the black with (too) thin shields that were really just meant to prevent fender-benders while landing.

One thing I have to remind myself of regularly out there is that the power distributor exists. After hopping from system to system for a few month, with the power permanently set to 2/4/0 and the keys for changing that covered in dust... IF you see the impact coming (and you usually do,) put four pips into systems just before you hit dirt. It really makes a huge difference, especially with weaker shields.

I can fat-finger keyboard controls all by myself, I don't need animal assistance. One day maybe I will find an alternative keyboard binding for opening the system map than the backtick key, which is right next to the 1 key.

This is the boost for me (that's why I dont want SCO ). 5/6 are good for the maps. 1-6 are all panels.

I had a high school teacher in college writing class. I brought in my homework one day and the bottom half was chewed up by my mother's cat. It happened that day so I had no time to redo it on new paper.

I have no idea how many rebuys I would have had if I didn't have shields in all my ships. I like to invent new, interesting and stylish ways to faceplant into planets (and space stations, mailslot and occasionally other ships)

For me weapons are optional, shields are essential.

if it had been a cat it would of probaly lower youre landing gear and put you in auto land, a lot more clever then dogs lolo

A cat would land you right on a plateau on a mountain that was only three feet wider than the ship.

And then knock you off it with a paw.
