Doppler effect on the stars are wrong shifted in witch space!

When traveling in witch space you can see light streaks around the corner, which are the stars we pass by while moving in witch space. Unless witch space has different laws of physics, the light streaks should be blue to red shifted rather then red to blue because of the Doppler Effect.

I know it's just a game and I already touched some grass but I felt like I should have share this with you guys.

As long as I reach my destination, they could go plaid...

(Until we actually get FTL spaceships, do we actually know if Dopler shift will be relevant - the game may just be giving a representation of movement through Witchspace to reassure the pilot that something is happening, after all, if we are travelling 1,000's of times FTL, no light would ever reach us, surely?)

Hmmm interesting, nice to read a post about physics. I do believe ( if memory serves about Carl Sagan's explanation) when approaching the speed of light a few things happen. The first is everything in front of you starts shifting to blue, everything behind you shifts to red. As you get closer to speed of light you start seeing in tunnel vision, a cone appears in front of you. Also as you approach the speed of light the faster you go the slower time passes for the traveler, which is unobservable by the traveler. Time dilation. We don't understand physics enough to go beyond that. As it stands now nothing can accelerate to the speed of light or beyond. Because of mass.

In the Elite universe our ships are no not moving in SC or hyper space, space is manipulated, so there isn't any acceleration, speed, or time dilation. I suppose there wouldn't be any red or blue shift, or tunnel vision. Just our imaginations. O7 Einstein (y)

Yeah, according to theory witch space is nothing like what you would see at near light speed, you would hardly see anything at all, they aren't stars zooming past in witch space, what they are is up to debate, even at near light speed getting to the nearest star would take many years, and at faster than light, well if conventional physics would allow you to get there, you probably wouldn't see anything at all. It's a game, they put in effect so we don't have to stare at boring black screens, have fun and don't worry about the physics of FTL is all I can say, because there isn't any!

There's a free game by MIT called "A Slower Speed of Light" which does a good job at visualizing how things would look like the closer you get to speed of light (or more correctly, the speed of causality): https://gamelab.mit.edu/games/a-slower-speed-of-light/

As for witchspace, it is completely different from the space we live in. It would be like trying to visualize how things would be looking like at subatomic scales, our brains just couldn't make a good sense of it.

More interesting question is, how would the outside world look like from within the warp bubble of supercruise/Alcubierre drive? On one hand, you're not really moving faster than light (or moving at all); but on the other hand the extreme distortions of spacetime would create some interesting visual effects.

Thanks for the share, I watched the video, I like how it was stated that they think of this kinda stuff everyday, and now you can experience these sort of thoughts we talk about as theoretical physicists.

Man I really am a forum noob, sometimes i can quote, and sometimes i screw it up.

Travelling faster than light is almost certainly impossible, but if it were possible something traveling at the lesser speed of light would be unable to show a Doppler effect.
