I would pay $100(per) to be able to rename the system

That's a slippery slope I do not wish Fdev to go down, my own opinion of course. They can give you the option for one free change and then that's it . My fear is that Fdev rather than new stuff make more money from charging you than the actual gameplay.

The original name still exists as an alias, obviously prenamed systems should be ineligible. Although, as mentioned, aliases are a thing.
The new name if this was ever allowed should be the alias, the only exception should be if there were native inhabitants of the system.

I do believe that systems like HIP, COL, LP, and so on are references to the location of the sky from sol they are in, the following numbers and hyphenated numbers after are again more coordinates so the stars can be studied and located again reliable. We can't see all of the stars in the Milky Way from sol, i believe when FDev created the galaxy simulator they employed astronomers who could work out how the unknown or unseen stars can be appropriately named. If you are in the bubble all of those stars are the real names of the stars you can see in the night sky.

I'm glad to see the response is well met. I think its another revenue stream for Frontier since there are billions of stars, if they charged $1 per to change the name they would make a fortune. Please understand that it's my intent to keep this game going forever. It has become one of the best games I have ever played. And I bought the original over 40 years ago. So, its been with me that long. I would love to have my name on a star. Who wouldn't?

"Drakkster's Rest"

I would totally agree with this $100 system name change.
Of course not everyone would want to pay that, but then not everyone would get that perk. Simply.
$10 is nothing. This is a major change to the game and the price should be high if you want such a thing.

It should not be the price of a happy meal at McDonalds.

And 100% FDev should make this happen. Income for them and a place we can call home for us. I'd rather not have my system as Col 285 Sector blah blah blah. :)

HIP is a Hipparchus Star Catalog number . Luhman is named after Kevin Lumnan catalog from the WISE satellite. Etc Etc.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_catalogue for other ones, not all of them are in Elite.

The procgen systems which you see in other part of the galaxy are overlayed by known stars taken from catalogs by Frontier. You can tell if its a procgen star from the name pattern.

I like the idea that's sort of emerged here that you could have system renames and you have to opt in somewhere in an option to see the player names rather than the procgen names. If you make procgen the default then people who rename a system are the only players who are forced to put up with player names for systems.

As we, as architects, are only the lackeys of the faction that we bought the construction contract from, there is no way that I'd pay to rename a system that, after all, is just another BGS / PP asset and can have its ruling faction (or all factions) retreated out and replaced with somone else's choice.

My name is in the Local news section, allegedly permanently, and that is the only clsim I have on the system, I helped build it up, I don't 'own' anything about it.

Given that it's an uninhabited system, what gives any faction the right to sell anything?
