Inappropriate names

To Frontier Developments and the Elite Dangerous Community,

With the recent introduction of player-built stations in Elite Dangerous, we have witnessed an incredible expansion of player creativity and engagement. However, this newfound freedom has also led to the emergence of offensive and inappropriate station names that detract from the immersive and respectful environment that Elite Dangerous strives to uphold.

I propose the following measures:

  1. Preemptive Filtering – Implement an automated system that flags and prevents inappropriate station names before they go live.
  2. Community Reporting System – Provide an in-game mechanism for players to report offensive station names directly, with swift review and action from the moderation team.
  3. Clear Consequences – Outline and enforce penalties for players who repeatedly attempt to bypass naming rules, such as temporary restrictions on naming privileges.
The Elite Dangerous universe is one of cooperation, exploration, and shared experiences. By addressing this issue, Frontier Developments will help maintain the integrity of the game and ensure that all players can enjoy the universe without encountering offensive content.

We appreciate the dedication and hard work that Frontier puts into Elite Dangerous, and we hope to see a proactive approach to maintaining a respectful and immersive experience for all Commanders.

Sincerely

Yes, you should really read the rules you agree to when you sign up for something. No polls, or petitions. It's quite clear. I have edited your post as such.

1. This exists already
2. The community can report through the support site https://formcrafts.com/a/ed-mainmenu (though ingame additions would be welcomed)
3. Frontier do not outline the specific penalties they impose upon Cmdrs deliberately
thanks

I agree it's off putting. I have seen a few names that if the canopy glass was blown out and I only have a min or so left of O2 I'd rather take the insurance claim than dock there. On the other side, I have seen some really cool station names, from before trailblazers, that i saved in favorites so i can easily go back and visit anytime i'd like. Just to pretend to say Hi and maybe drop off some goods. Thinking of you Chris and Sylvia's Paradise Hideout.

I don't recall seeing anything that I'd deem reportable, I mean bad taste, juvenile, and lame isn't really inappropriate.

I think some of the writers who do Galnet articles should be given a list of all the newly named stations, or renamed stations, for that particular week and should independently verify if they fit the ED "lore".

FDev really have to be gatekeepers to their own creation and universe on this one. They still have an IP and a gameplay setting to protect. They should do so.

Having loopy ship names and CMDR names is fine, but having stupid names for stations when they show up for everyone else in game and on third party sites like Inara etc really weakens the fantastic lore that has been built over the past 30 years.

No such starport has ever been found, however, and rival experts have accused Crane of forging her evidence in order to maintain the revenue from her billions of followers.

I'd like to point out that there is a system called "Kuk", and the devs decided to put an engineer in it.
What's wrong with KUK :
1- An abbreviation for kaiserlich und königlich, which is German for "imperial and royal"
2- A Javanese word that means "yoke", which is a wooden frame placed over the necks of oxen
3- The name of Kurukshetra University in Thanesar, India
4-Other matches are
  • A language called Kuk
  • A company called KUK Limited that specializes in the repair of electronic and optical equipment
  • Professor George Kuk at Manchester Metropolitan University

Unlike ship names, which are asterisked out, a custom name will be outright refused if it contains anything the filters pick up.

Besides, randomly generated names are more fun.

I found your nick unimmersive and with a grammar mistake in it, please change it, I'm a snowflake like you.
