Mandalay is too cheap! This is broken balance

Why does Mandalay cost only 18 million while Krait Phantom is nearly three times more expensive? This isn’t just strange – it’s unfair to other ships.
  • Mandalay is faster, more maneuverable, and has a much longer jump range than Phantom.
  • Yet, it costs almost three times less!
Phantom used to be the go-to choice for long-range travel, but now Mandalay does it even better and for a fraction of the price. Where’s the logic?

If it's superior in key aspects, then its price should reflect that. Right now, anyone with 18 million can get one of the best medium ships in the game.

FDev, Mandalay should cost at least 50-60 million.
Balance is at risk, and it needs fixing.

Mandalay
class 5 power plant & distributor
optionals:
1*6, 1*5, 2*4, 2*3, 1*2, 4*1
hardpoints:
4*M 2*S

Phantom
class 7 power plant & distributor
optionals:
1*6, 3*5, 3*3, 1*2, 2*1
2*L 2*M

Generally I'd say the Phantom is the more capable ship, SCO and jumprange nonwithstanding.

But I agree, the Mandalay is too cheap for what it delivers. You only need to platinum mine 5.73 minutes for it on average compared to the 13.34 minutes for a Phantom.

(Yes the balance in the game is borked)

Generally speaking phantom is better for exploring then any other activity. In case you want to use it for other purpose you can buy mkII. Anyway, Mandlay SHOULD have at least the same price.

Mandalay is faster
Faster in supercurz due of SCO, but not in regular flight. Phantom can easly reach 591 with combat setup, mandy can reach about 555-560 in m/s. It has stronger boost and be more mauverable, but it is in fact, considerable slower.

What else can mandy do better than phantom that isnt exploring? There isnt much. Here is "logic" you asked.

Its not superior in key aspects other than exploring. Its not as fast (again, 30-40 m/s slower in combat fit), and it lacks size 3 hardpoints. And both distro and plant is 2 sizes smaller, and mandy have quite larger hitbox, both in width and length over phantom. And good luck interdictin anyone with mandy, as interdicting in mandy seems broken as hell.

There is no such thing as "credit balance" or "price balance" ever since like... 9-8 years..... with numerous ways to earn hundreds of millions per hour, doing basic stuff on every aspect of gameplay, even newbies can earn millions per hour, soon as they leave first dock - all while having no clue what are they are doing yet.

It seems that mandy is cheap as it is, so newer players can access it ealier (within first 3 hours, not 5 lol)... but its still irrelevant... the whole "price balance" in due of what I said above.. since diffrence between 60m or 20m, its like few mins of gameplay at most to get that much.

It is superior in maneuverability, it absolutely covers the difference in speed.

Nobody uses phantom for any other purpose than exploring, since Mandlay is much better in it (Even tho worse in other aspects) it should have at least the same price.

it is not ok that Mandalay is that affordavle for newbies, there is asp explorer for that purpose.

Overloaded of credits pocket is not the topic of disscussion. It might be mins of gameplay for you, don't forget that there are a lot of new players.

Last thing, Federal Corvet is just a battle ship but why there is no such price difference with anaconda that can do everything, ha? In fact, it costs more. Strange, isn't it?

This is the first time I've seen somebody worrying about ship price tags. They are absolutely meaningless these days. Heck, even a hand gun costs more than a ship hull. We are already too far into unbalanced territory, nothing they can do anymore for the credits. I suppose that's also why they keep on introducing new currencies all the time. Ship mats, on-foot mats, merits, now construction points. If the last burned out because of inflation, on to the next we go.

That's true, but still...

A solution might be to introduce yet another currency: ship schematics. You need a certain number of them to buy ships. And the asset "ship schematic" is there already. Unfortunately it will lock out Horizons-only players, but it might be a way to lock down new ships in the future as well. Then again, you can always shell out ARX to get the ship, anyway.

More grind? Doesn't sound as a soultion for me. Ships have fair price due to the price of modules. The overall problem is that there is no way to spend credits in game.
Forget abour ARX please, it is not a soultion, it is another way but it should not be an argument. We are talking about in game credits balance.
