Now, If I merely needed to resurrect the dev team, I could fly through to Heathrow, arriving Monday night. Only about $700 USD.
My "unremarkable" system turned out to be the perfect starter system for beginners. Very grateful I ended up with it, would have screwed up anything more complicated.

my guess is that with the servers spooling up (and they now have to process 25 K more systems BGS-wise than before) together with all them eager Commanders furiously clicking the System Claim Contact it might take some?

So after mucking about waiting for the station Colonization to free up I did some exploring and found that I needed to start Colonization from a SOLID TRIANGLE, NOT A HOLLOW TRIANGLE.
Wish I had known this earlier. Would have saved me a load of pain and anger...

Could this cause overall crashes? I've crashed out about 7 times in the last two hours.
At least you can “do something” I’m just entering and exiting… over and over.. I usually love that sort of thing. Waiting for this contact to come online is the worst gaming experience I’ve ever had in my life.
No, that's what they did. Some players keep refreshing for 7 hours to wait for their service up and I don't think it's good for server health. Unless it's a kind of colony request queue and be processed by time. I don't know why they choose Friday night to apply the change. It's likely to continue and I'd take a snap.

i've crashed out about 5 times in the past 20min and cant load into solo or private rn
I bet they pause colonization again, just to double screw us who missed our targets
sounds about right.
i think its more of either their servers cant handle them or group of people kept spamming and everything fell apart
