Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

Distance and time indeed. At 15 Ly plus an outpost requiring more than one carrier load of commodities, it will still take me longer than the lifetime of the game to get near the places I most want to colonize, and the end targets will still be impossible as the stars are typically 40-50Ly apart in that region.

I remembered that I had not yet given a single feedback.
If there is a waiting period when renaming a station, I think it needs to be noted whether the change was accepted or not.
For example, “This station will be renamed Everybody Landing in 6 days".
The Coriolis station I built was not renamed last week.
Yes, I know that many stations did not even open last week, so I understand that it could be due to the same problem that the name was not changed.
However, it is also possible that there was some kind of mistake and the renaming application did not go through.
It would be reassuring if the UI would leave an indication that the renaming was accepted.

I have renamed many of my facilities using both random generator and ARX. I believe each time there was indication the name was accepted, and ingame the name change definitely took place immediately. Updating in INARA (and maybe other 3rd party tools) had difficulty, but it looks like that might be resolved too.

You should certainly not need o wait for thursday tick for name change. That sounds like a bug, not by design. I recommend trying again, take some screenshots and submit a bug report.

I'm not sure it is a bug, it is a message put in by the FDev that appears sometimes. I have the same problem, in a certain system that message will appear when I try to change a name, in a different one the change it's happening straight away.

Especially if a name change is performed using ARX (Item purchased and ARX consumed) I would be raising a fuss. There is a very specific message that pops up when ARX is used for a name change. Always take screenshots when doing a transaction!

  • Amount of resources required
  • Amount of time/distance taken to complete tasks
Views expressed are personal, subjective and not necessarily representative of those of the management.

Resources required are about right. A small outpost equating to near a fully loaded FC can be achieved (according to some cargo shifting pros) in around 5 hours end to end. Personal experience I can take a claim from zero to first outpost in 24 hours of relaxed playing. I'll go back later to flesh out the system with the larger facilities so all good.

Time, well largely as above, all good. Distances, the 15ly limit might be seen as a constraint but for my game it presents a puzzle to be solved - how am I gonna colonize my way to that prize system and (perhaps more importantly) snag that system before somebody else jumps the claim.

I'm holding off on fleshing out those systems I'm honoured to be named architect on until I can visualise a solid tech tree and fully understand the effects of my decisions, but this will all be fleshed out as the community do their usual sterling discovery work.

Perhaps not the most helpful clutch of feedback, but I'm still having fun over here (y)

I think everyone's spinning their wheels on feedback now. We're repeating ourselves because a lot of the key feedback overlaps anyway.

Whenever Paul posts we are then able to say "ok we know FDev know about it." So if you want new, insightful feedback at this point, I think it's time for a new thread where the first post summarises what feedback FDev have heard and it doesn't even need to have an FDev response, we just need to be able to point to it in the thread and say "yes, we know, move on, we've discussed that."

My two pieces of feedback so far:
  • I am a casual player - I rarely have a stint over two hours and I will often skip a day or two. But I thought building an Outpost was fine. I did it in a T-8 so this might be a good example of newer ships working to help with the newer updates.
  • FIX THE DAMN DOCUMENTATION. There's actually a lot of good stuff in those screens and I wouldn't personally change the UI too much, but what is there needs to be accurate. It isn't. You've already caught the one example that was just really hideously unclear (orbital and body influence) and agreed to look into it so that's fab, but someone please sit down and just proofread the screens again. Again, it would help everyone on forums and Reddit and Discords to help FDev if we had something to refer to.

Ok folks,

A couple of points of clarification.

1. Please, stay on topic.
2. Please, discuss the post and not the poster.
3. Let's stay polite and civil.
4. None of this is my fault.

Thanks.
Is my assumption correct that you began to receive responses to false statements on the stream?

I have been building out a system and I've completed 11 total builds with a 12th orbital underway (4 planetary, 7 orbital completed). However the colonization screen only shows 8 completed builds (Screenshot of system attached).

In addition Slot 0 around my primary port construction is continuing to allow me to build orbital stations. It has successfully allowed me to place 2 orbitals in slot 0 and both appear in game. One was a Space Farm and the other a Mining Outpost.

I'm unsure if this is an error or a bug in the game - but I wanted to share the feedback as it appears this isn't working as intended.

I have Tier 3 Starport in place along with over 10 surface/orbital builds in my system. However, INARA still shows inaccurate data for my system. Maybe it gets updated when the economy gets fixed or updated? 🤷‍♂️

Hi.
I just tried to place my 1st extraction ground base and ... half of it is floating in the air. this is most verisimilitude breaking

if I build it like this once constructed will the game correctly place the base on the ground or will it be glitched?

if it's the latter can I cancel it somehow and replace without a penalty?

thanks.

i dont see sniping as an issue at all. like i stated previously, if someone interrupts your "chain" it does not matter. you can colonize right next door and keep heading in your desired direction anyways. they dont "block you out"
secondly, if they got that "one system" with 14 high metal, or the one with 21 icy worlds ( wink ) well guess what. there are dozens if not thousands of similar systems to be colonised.

naaa, from my experience all will be good. Had placed a Agri Settlement on top of a steep peak, the guys just bulldozered off half the mountain until the construction did fit - so. like RL.....
looks cool though - and for anyone who for BGS or whatsever reasons wants to attack - on foot or SRV - that will become quite impossible with ~70° slopes and 0.5 g.....

Feedback on colonising a system with a time-expired claim. I'd seen a system that was claimed on day 1, a coriolis was placed at the primary port (around planet 1) but progress was 0%. The 28-day timer expired today and after a couple of hours the system showed up in the galaxy map as "unclaimed" with the primary port flag on planet 1. I successfully claimed the system, but the colonisation ship has gone to planet 2; initially the system map showed the flag on planet 1 and ship simultaneously on planet 2 (should've got a screenshot of that) but the flag has since gone. Not sure if this is by design? There are no assets around planet 1 (remains of starport, etc.). Fortunately, planet 2 is landable and only 2300Ls out so we're still all good.

Please give us more information in the Codex about what the various system statistics are, what they do, how they work with each-other and facilities to produce a desired effect. We do not and have never known what these mean even if you do! Are pops local or system-wide? Are 'markets' planet-wide or just the single port/settlement?

Tell me like I've never worked at FDev. Because I haven't.
