Occupied Escape Pods - What to do with them?

While collecting resources on Kappa-1 Volantis I found 6 occupied escape pods which I transfered to my ship. They are marked as stolen which I find rather odd but anyway, what am I supposed to do with them cos I don't plan on returning to any stations until I'm full up with resources. Goes without saying I do not want to end up getting destroyed for carrying stolen stuff ! I thought I was doing a good deed but maybe not. Am on xbox.

This is off my topic a bit but I just came across what looks like an old globe structure, identifies as a data point so I scanned it. Says something about data links being opened. what is it?

You can usually sell the downloaded data to the contact at a starport. Ok you don't get much, but it's some sort of payment at least.

To unlock the engineer Etienne Dorn in Colonia you have to bring him 25 Occupied Escape Pods.
I wonder what he needs them for? :LOL:
